Katamari Survivor || ⚠️recommened to play itch.io ver with link below! 🎮itch.io
Theme of LD 58 is Collector, rather than making another Granny/Slender collect pages clone, I thought about what existing games about collecting stuff are great, and obviously the best game about collecting stuff is Katamari Damacy. Megabonk is also getting really popular recently, so thought about implementing a Katamari + Vampire Survivors clone. All code written within 3 days.
Notes
- Did a hacky way to render the preview of collected collectibles using overlay camera offset below the world, but seems to work nice enough
- Meshes composed on multiple child objects are a pain to manage e.g. can't simply get a bounds/size data from just 1 source
- Movement/input with Rigidbody? Remember to use
rb.AddForce, ideally with a separate 'input velocity' var
- First time using PrimeTween, super easy to get up and running, surprisingly nice that it comes with
useUnscaledTime option 🙏
- Using reference footage from
, noticed that the katamari doesn't really use the entire stickied object's collider, and instead probably just extruded some verts of the original katamari shape, so attempted to replicate the logic
Known bugs
- Sometimes when choosing Size upgrade with collectibles nearby, katamari will grow infinitely and break the game...
- Pausing and unpausing will unfreeze the game, even if Upgrades/Win menu is shown

Not-so-free
A playground (where you could stick different toys, pebbles).
A garage (bolts, nuts, keys, spare parts) and so on.
I loved the idea with the pipe that you can ride through to go down the mountain. It would be awesome to add more interactive objects to the environment
Good Job!
(I loved the little purple dude, haha)

Wow, this is seriously cool. It's fun to play. It really lifted my spirits! The mechanics are unique, I'll have to remember them. At the end, I was thrown somewhere outside the map.
Ayy, very fun! I'm glad someone did a Katamari-like game and the mix-up is a cool idea. I got the infinity bug on my first attempt but I did another run without taking the size upgrade and managed to complete it so I'm glad the size upgrade wasn't necessary to get everything on the map. I was also pleasantly surprised about how well the collision and physics worked for 3 days of work.
Nice job!
I'll say the ball physics is still extremely buggy and before grabbing the trophy I glitched out of the map haha
A bigger map would've been awesome!
Everything felt smooth and polished! Great work!
Great job!
Anyway, had a lot of fun with this one! Took me 5 mins to reach the trophy because I was too focused on collecting everything to even notice it at first 😅
I'm curious if you thougth about other kind of upgrade?
Well crafted fun entry!

My strategy was focusing on size over the other powerups, once I could collect the blue fence, it all came together. Genius take on the theme! Of course Katamari Damacy is the ultimate collection game, so a spin on that with some cool new elements mixed in is the perfect match for the theme. Amazing pick there. Also amazing how well you captured the feel of it, it was super smooth and felt super natural to collect all the items and grow bigger. Awesome game, great job, had a lot of fun rolling around in it!
