Cold Side by Thierry

[raw]
made by Thierry for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

In an abandoned arctic research lab, five scavengers hunt for priceless crystals while something ancient hunts them. Gather wealth, outsmart your competitor and survive the monster stalking the frozen facility. When all is looted, the extraction door opens, only those with $80,000 or more can escape. The rest are "left behind".

Collect crystals faster than your competitors or kill them with the environment to take their share.

When you are the only one left or all crystals have been looted, the escape door will open and marked on your minimap (red arrow). Be sure to have enough cash before leaving (cash indicator turned green).

Post-Submission-Deadline Updates

v1.3: Fixed a game-breaking bug that kills everyone when the final cutscene starts

Due to requests in the comments, I uploaded a Linux build of v1.3. Since I don't have a Linux device at the moment, it is not tested well.

Interesting title, i like the HUD and eviornment, sadly the players are just default dummies but it's still pretty enjoyable. Would be great as a multiplayer game

Great game, the mechanics were fun and I had a blast playing it! Did need to edit some settings so it could run smoothly, and I felt the mouse sensitivity was a bit too high. Apart from that the game was really fun

The atmosphere of this game is very strong - between the music, the growling and the lights turning out, the game does a pretty good job of being scary even before you see the monster, and the lab itself has quite a bit of interesting variety as well.

Being taunted by the bots is giving me some nostalgia for late 90s - early 00s Quate/UT bot deathmatch...

I made it run on Linux using WINE. It played fine, and I managed to not get killed in the end (took a couple of attempts though). World building is good :)

The game is easy to learn and fun, I'm surprised by the amount of polish and mechanics it has (like the different rooms, the heli who takes off at the end...) A great surprise, really nailed it.

I liked the idea and realization of the Ludum theme, and the interesting idea of crystals and their realization.

Interessting idea. Alien with enemies. I collected way more money than needed escape (130k or so) and thus was only second to the choper.

Creative concept! Definitely has potential as a full multiplayer game.

Cool game, the enemy was intense and gave the whole competition of collecting the money that bit of spice that was needed. They really didnt like me though as I often died  . Like others have said it would work well in a multiplayer setting. Great jam here

Concept works well, would love to see it in a multiplayer ! Died a couple of time because of my own incompetence, locking myself in the same room as the monster :D Very nice sound effect on him btw

Great entry, good job !

Another new multiplayer game! This is really unique! How on earth did you manage to make this in just a short jam?

@yibirabbit007 Thanks a lot! I guess cutting a lot of corners and skipping sleep :)

And many thanks to all of you guys!
After some consideration, we decided to add **multiplayer** to the game.
We will announce here when it's completed and hope to get some of you to play with us!

Just to be fair about this:
### MULTIPLAYER IS A POST-JAM EXTENSION AND SHOULD NOT AFFECT YOUR VOTE!

This was pretty intense! I played the linux build and didn't notice anything I'd call a bug or issue really, other than the sound from the monster seemed to come from random directions, not necessarily where the monster was in relation to me. But other than that, everything seemed to work as expected, controls etc. Graphics were nice, music and sounds were on point as well. Great job!

Amazing work! It’s super interesting and has a vert unique way to paraphrase the theme, good job! And welcome to give our game a try! :)

Great job! I absolutely understand that making multiplayer for a game jam would be a bit too much, so I get the NPCs. Cool idea. Collecting stuff is a bit slow for my liking but besides that everything worked fine. Well done!
