Violet's Home by l6ria
Platformer game created by the Tea Gardeners team. This is our first game project, created with fully hand-drawn visuals and original music. Most of our effort went into building the atmosphere and art style, so some gameplay elements may still be rough. We're excited to share it and open to any feedback as we keep improving.
A, D - move E - interact Space - jump

The audio loop could have been a bit longer, and text boxes could have been faster/player-controlled.
I think the biggest issue it has right now is that the combination of player sprite and hitbox makes it very hard to judge how big you are. Cause it goes to the edge of the skirt but one wouldn't expect the skirt to be part of the hitbox if that make sense
I personally like the details for the clouds also Violet's dress when jumping, the overall visuals look artistic
I do agree that the music loop feels repetitive, it'd be better if it's a little bit longer.
But overall gameplay is fun. It's kinda hard for me with all those mushrooms but I think every elements are well done in this short amount of time.
However here are some things on which you can improve in my opinion.
The music could need more variance to be less monotone and fit the mood better. For example you could add some additional notes in the melody or create new patterns alternating with each other to keep the music interesting.
Although the artstyle produces a rather cozy mood the chat with the characters felt rather rushed and a little too fast, so I had to talk with the characters several times to read everything they had to say. I think giving the player the option to skip to the next text passage by themselves would fit the pacing of the game better.
Lastly the character physics and collision with shrooms felt a bit wonky, but that can be tweaked easily and is nothing other game creators haven't gone through in the making of their games before.
Keep up the already good work and I'm sure you will become better and better.
There are some issues:
- if you are talking and restart talking by accident it seem that the audio speech is parallel sometimes
- Jumping is a bit floaty
- Hitboxes of the deathes are too big
And if you made to the final screen and didnt know you can run out of the view :)
However besides that and that it is a jam game i really like it!
Two small things:
- your game is currently not playable on other keyboard layouts than Qwerty (for instance Dvorak or Azerty), make sure to use the key code for the movements (event.code instead of event.key)
- change the name of the link above from "Microsoft Window" to "Web" (or similar), currently it looks like it can only be played on Windows
- add some variation to the background music, it's too repetitive and it's also too loud compared to the sound effects
- the platforming mechanic could really use some love. Making it more arcade-like would make a huge difference
- adding some effects like your player character flashing when it hits the mushrooms before porting it back to the starting point would make it feel way more like a polished game
- add some more challenges to make it more engaging.
