It’s a Show and Tell competition in your homeroom class! Bring your favorite toy to compete against your classmates. Showdown & Tell is a pageant game where you collect and apply stickers that can (drastically) affect your success in competitions. Collect stickers to customize and upgrade your Toy as you progress through the game.

Pick a new sticker to add to your collection after each competition. Do poorly, and you will collect Goobers instead!

The type of competition changes each day, and so do Judges opinions. judges.png

How to Play

1) In 'Showdown and Tell' customize your favorite toy using collectible stickers and then compete to have the coolest toy in a series of Show and Tell pageants!

2) Each competition takes place over 3 Rounds, and you will choose an Action for your Toy to take each round.

3) Collect Stickers to add or change your Actions, apply powerful buffs, and adapt to the upcoming competitions. If you lose competitions, you will collect Goobers, which offer strong effects with a cost.

4) Use an Action that matches the competition's Type to get an extra heart. Judges have preferences and will award or revoke hearts based on an Action's Type.
Use the same Action twice in a row and you will suffer from a (-2) Redundancy penalty!

5) Actions give you hearts, have Types, and are affected by the following: Opinion of Judges The Type of competition it is. Passive Stickers or Goobers Redundancy

Play 5 competitions to win!

Nice work, reminds me of My Card is Better than Your Card. Mom's Favorite Toy was shocking in a funny way.

I was a bit confused by the action system. It seemed like it didn't work as I'd expect. I had 3 pretty actions and would use all 3 in a competition but the last one (+4 hearts if you used 2 pretty actions) wouldn't give me +4. It also seemed a bit too straightforward since once I had 3 seemingly good actions I'd just always use those 3 every competition.

@zexurge You betcha!
@schu That was definitely one of our references! We did struggle with making the gameplay simultaneously strategic and easier-to-understand, but we'll know better for next time.
@kamilah @imos Thanks for playing! And yeah we were all exhausted by the end of it haha

This is a novel idea for a game, and I like how it is structured to be a series of contests back to back. I managed to do well with a sock puppet for my playthrough. I liked being able to see the main type of contests coming up, though I am unsure how much that impacted the scores. I would have liked being able to see more judge preferences before I finalized my sticker choices to have some more strategy involved. Without being able to see the judges, other competitors, or even the initial turn order, a lot of the gameplay comes down to luck. Reacting to that luck is okay, but the limit of three actions do not have that much wiggle room.

One small visual glitch is at the end screen, I am sure I saw bronze medals for the rounds I won and a gold medal for the round I lost, so they must have been swapped.
The toys and references were very funny, it could only have been better with more information given. Good job!

Amazing art, SFX and concept in general. I think it was a bit confusing trying to understand what all was going on, but we also made a game that is entirely UI dependent so I know just how hard it can be to make a game like this intuitive in such a short period of time

The game is beautiful. Probably interesting. But it's complicated and confusing. I didn't have the strength to figure it out.

The game's graphics and audio is amazing and incorporates the theme well into its mechanism! A small suggestion would be, since the games rules are relatively complicated, adding hands on tutorials instead of many pages with text explanation may be a better option, but I do understand that it would take much more time to achieve this. Overall this game is awesome and extremely high quality!

Super charming game! It was sometimes a bit confusing why I got a certain number of hearts. Seeing the opponents turns also was a little distracting. A very ambitious scope for a jam. But would love to see a more polished version of this as it has a lot of potential with the combos and I love the setting and customization of my toy!
