Memory Duel by exigo

[raw]
made by exigo for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

Introduction

Memory Duel is a memory game or matching game where the players flip pieces on the board and compete to be the first to fill one of the color bars. The game was made for the Ludum Dare 58 game jam as a Jam Entry.

Instructions

Click on the pieces on the board to flip them. The pieces are checked after two of them have been flipped. Try to remember and match two pieces that have identical color and symbol. Every time either player finds a match the corresponding color bar of that player is advanced. The first player that is able to fill one of the color bar wins. Have fun!

Note: when there are only two pieces left on the board, the board will be cleared and refilled.

Implementation Details

This game was made with Godot Engine 4.4.1. Some graphics were done with GIMP. Since nearly all of the graphics were done by someone else than me and the game contains no audio, I've opted out of the those rating categories. The (dumb) computer-controlled opponent doesn't currently remember any of the previous pieces.

0 % generative AI was used to make this game.

I beat the game! It's harder to remember the colors, of course, but considering the enemy isn't very smart, it was easy.

The cards flip too quickly. I think if you slow down the cards and make the enemy a little stronger, it'll be fine.

Didn't remember memory game would be so addictive. Nice job! Some feedback: Enemy seemed to turn cards pretty randomly. Having npc learning from players mistakes would prob. make the gameplay a bit harder

A solid classic game. Really dig the idea of several colors for cards. Good job

When there are so many sprites at the beginning, it's really hard to remember the images.

It's also sad that the bot plays rather poorly—if you, as a player, make obvious mistakes and clearly highlight identical cards, the bot never exploits these weaknesses and doesn't even notice when it opens cards successfully. Personally, it only managed to pair me a few times; I can't imagine how long it would take for the bot to win.

But the idea is original, and the execution is decent. Good job!

Simple & classic game. Maybe NPC is too easy, he just flips ranod cards.
