Happy Cleaning Co. by auxC

made by auxC for Ludum Dare 58 (JAM)

Happy Cleaning Co is a cheerful little physics platformer where you play as a trash collector and the sole employee of Happy Cleaning Co.

shortareaclean.gif

Your job is to help clean up after whoever will hire you. Use your super powerful vacuum cleaner to collect dirt and trash, and spit it out into a trash bin! Very exciting!

 • A and D to move
 • Space to jump
 • Left click to suck
 • Right click to blow
 • R to restart level

Making this little game was really fun. We put some cool moments moments in it, like meeting Poseidon in the Ocean.

Or valiantly trying to rid Manitoba of all the excess snow. :D

Bugfix patch: Resolved dirt spawning behind doors and invisible snowballs showing up occasionally in Manitoba, causing players to be unable to finish the game.

A fun and amusing game.
Unfortunately, I got stuck on one level because I was missing one piece of trash to finish it, but the level was completely empty. I wanted to restart it, but the R key didn’t work — the level wouldn’t reset. I checked on the first level too, and R didn’t work there either. I tried switching keyboard layouts and pressing other keys, but no luck.
It might be a good idea to have an additional restart button in the in-game menu for situations like this.

@psevdonim Aghh, sorry about that! We had to take out the restart button last minute because of a bug. :(

Also hello everyone, didn't expect to see people here so early. I'm still taking screenshots and recording gifs to show on the page... :D

First of all - great voice acting, that's really fun. Rat is great. Didn't played it all yet but bookmarked it for later. Love this one

Great job. Some fun and cool ideas. I feel like some of the area designs are a bit abusive and I would have preferred more bite-sized challenges instead of "here's a big room of stuff and only one trash big, have fun" - The "gotta catch them all" fish room is a good example of that - I think that room would have worked better with half the fish. Maybe that's just me.

Audio work is fun and entertaining (but there's a few notes in the melody that remind me of Christmas music lol). Voice acting is fun and dialog is fun! Visuals are nice but also a little janky due to the hi-res pixel art thing. (use Pixel Perfect Camera maybe)

**Game mechanics shine** but objectives often feel like more of a chore than a challenge.

Great job overall yaall!

How should I clean the dirt in the third level? It seems I can't jump onto the platform.

Really tight mechanics and good game feel. I like the incentive to get through to each level to hear the funny dialogue snippets from each character.
Some of the puzzles got a little bit tedious by the end, but a solid game that works well to the theme.
Great entry.

The gameplay mechanics are smooth and satisfying. The levels are diverse and interesting. The overall gaming experience is seamless. It's a good game. However, I'm stuck at this part and I don't know which piece of trash I missed in the end.

Didn't expect the voice acting, that was really fun. I liked the vibe and the core idea is really easy to understand, but the player controller was a little clunky and felt like I was playing against it at points. The satisfaction of sucking could be even better if the movement was more forgiving and juicy

outstanding, easily in the running for my favorite game this jam, voice acting was outstanding and funny, loved Pociden and the man from Manatoba! game play loop was very fun and the enemies adding different challenges to the areas was good. The rats making more rubbish and the penguins making more snow were a good variation on gameplay play.

if there's anything to improve here, I would say alternatives to the gameplay, for replayability. cleaning the rats slime before he tells you not to, getting alternative dialogs, what would happen if you continued. or at the end, you kill all the enemies on the ocean level, now pociden has no fish... is he really the king of the ocean anymore
and musical theming for the area under water and maybe a Oh Canada rendition of the song

easily a 10/10 game. something that was just pure fun to play !

Thanks so much for the comments everyone! Ludum Dare is amazing because of the community, and you're all representing well <3

Sorry to hear people are getting stuck, we had a reset button in the game to help reduce the frustration there, but it doesn't work in published builds!

I was really proud of the ending 😅 it's simple, but pretty satisfying I think! if we fix the reset button I'll ping anyone that got stuck, but it's really hard to debug since it doesn't break in editor.

Fun fact, we recorded and integrated the "happy cleaning co" jingle in the last 10 minutes of the jam! I think it was worth it lol.

Thanks again for playing and commenting ❤️

What a nostalgic vibe in this game! Responsive controls and nice and small levels to clear and to feel satisfied afterwards :)

Everything seems simple and clear from the very beginning, but the game is addictive, and then new levels and mechanics. A separate like for the sound of passing the level

After your comment on our game about loving voice acting in games, I had to take a little look and see if you did some yourself. I am more than pleasantly surprised, this is such a banger of an entry to the jam!

The voices are so insanely good holy hell!! Rat man is definitely my favorite hahaha, but the lil canadian dude also had me cracking up. And I'm so impressed by how much content you guys managed to put into this, its insane.

You guys also really expanded well on the hoover mechanics, that kept each level fun to play instead of it becoming repetative to clean stuff up.

Great entry guys!

Like many other I got stuck in one ice level, wanted to see that final :( .

Aside from that, I looove the mood of the game ! The physic logic when you push object really add a skill touch. Maybe the wall jump could be improved, some jump were a bit weird to make.

Really loved the music too, did you guys made it ?

Excellent execution, small simple & lovable, could be my favourite on this jam too. Good job !

Sorry you got stuck @damyyr! I think we might have found the source of the bug it's very sneaky I don't know when/if we'll get a patch in though. I recorded all the music during the jam! I'm really proud of how the menu and gameplay music have the same melody, but very different energy levels.

And thanks @re-markable! Your game was a delight to play, I'm glad you enjoyed ours :)

I just pushed a patch! It should be no longer possible to get stuck with no items to be found. If all else fails, the restart level button is also fixed and available.

🎵 Happy Cleaning Co.🎵

Really fun platformer, and I'm usually terrible at platformers but I think not having to time crazy jumps and dodge enemies helped a lot! It was almost more of a puzzle game at times with having to manage your bag weighing you down.

![Screenshot 2025-10-09 123716.png](///raw/fb7/c/z/6f1a2.png)
Managed to beat it! Loved the voice lines and humor. Manitoba guy was cracking me up.

I will say I wish you continued to use the propelling/blowing movement from the water levels, because it was one of the first things I tried doing in the game, so when I was finally able to do it having it go away was a bit of a let down. I think it could've used a little more oomph too, but maybe it's just because I want to fly around levels propelled by a vacuum cleaner 😆

Anyway, loved it! Great job!

Very solid game here. The overall presentation was great and pretty charming. Speaking of charming, that voice acting was definitely perfect for the kind of game this was. Same applies to the audio in general.

The gameplay mechanics were cool, and sucking and shooting trash and dirt/snow was fun as heck. That said, I was a little disappointed in the overall gameplay structure. As the game went on, it felt like the same puzzle/scenario was being repeated without any real change. It still managed to be fun, but I won't lie that it got slightly monotonous.

I think the main factor here was that you could still pull off wall jumps even when your pink bag was very full. As a result, it didn't matter too much that I sucked every piece of trash around me since I could mostly wall-jump my way out of any part of the level ( Except for maybe 1 or 2 levels towards the end )

And while only a small nitpick, I felt like the objects you needed to vacuum kinda blended into the environment during the sewer levels. Maybe they could've contrasted a little more better ( But this wasn't really that much of an issue tbh )

All in all, I'd say you guys made a pretty fun game with a ton of personality to boot. Kudos to y'all

Amazing. I really liked how the vacuum felt, and how versatile it was. I really found the characters and the voice acting to be funny, great job. I did find the jump affected by weight unexpected as the text describing that is high up in the level... but once I found that out it all made sense. Lots of fun!

"Slime is my only joy in life."

The voice acting is top notch!!! Such amazing characters. :joy:

This is SO INCREDIBLE!!! One of my top entries so far. :raised_hands: :fire:

The art, the audio, voice acting and mechanics are all so crazy good. I can't believe how many levels you managed to create as well. :open_mouth:

I loved the toy-like quality of sucking objects up and blowing them back out. I had so much fun playing around with that.

Also.... what in the Ninja Turtles??? An underwater level?? :turtle:  Loved how you had to use your reverse vacuum here.

Top entry. 11/10. Would clean trash again.

Everyone: we found the winner of LD58! It's right here!

My gosh did I have a good time playing this gem! The graphics are great, the controls and mechanics were satisfying, the characters were hilarious. This entry is made to perfection. I love it and it is for me #1 (and this is the 55th game I played)

I cant give any constructive feedback to be honest. Normally I would have one or two points to "complain" about, but for this one I just flatout do not have any

Thanks for bringing a smile to my face

Quite satisfying to play around with the vacuum cleaner! I also like how each area was distinct both in terms of look, mechanics and the character's personality.
