Am a drone (◕‿◕) by Twaerd

[raw]
made by Twaerd for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

You thought flying saucers where alien's mean of transport?

YOU'VE NEVER BEEN SO WRONG!

Flying saucers ARE the aliens! And they're cute :)

They come in peace to help us in the delivery system.

They really like to help, and people can give them Scoopz, their own currency used to help us even more!

They tried to learn our language, but all they seem to know is a primitive way for their function in the society: 'Am a drone' (◕‿◕)

CONTROLS

Phase 1: Trajectories

Select a drone with Left-Click, Select<em>Drone</em>small.gif

Right-Clicks on the map to draw a trajectory, Draw<em>Trajectory</em>small.gif

-

With selected point or line:

Right-Click to move it anywhere on the map (with its original constraints), Move<em>Line</em>small.gif

Maintain Right-Click for drag-and-drop Move<em>Line</em>Hold_small.gif

SUPPR. to delete selected point or line, Delete<em>Line</em>small.gif

-

Phase 2: Deliveries

Left-Click on the drone you want to send on a delivery. Send<em>Drone</em>small.gif

Note: Drones only make 90° angles.

They can carry only one package for now.

They need to go back to their origin point to reload after a delivery.

They can deliver a package on their way back.

They go up to the end of the trajectory before returning home.

The game looks cute, but I have no idea what I'm doing, and struggled to define a trajectory even after reading the instructions. I made the drone follow the road, but it seems like it was not the most optimal thing to do, or maybe it was? I didn't knew when I was getting scoopz or not... A tiny bit of sounds or vfx would have probably been a great help, but that was a nice try at the jam's theme :)

It take me many try but I finish by getting it! The explication are unfortunately not enough to understand the game due to the lack of certain feedback and readability of cerain element (the ufo on the left feel weird, maybe start in the center would have help gettin clearer ?)

But it's a jam so it's hard to ask "more" in this context , and once you understand how it work, it's kinda fun to trace the different path to get the delivery. The snooze loose is kinda harsh cause if you loose money you are getting further to the buy new drone who could help you. But it's still fun to have automatize element like that ! And the visual work !

Couldn't get it to work. Read the instructions twice. Maybe a screen capture of the game showing the clicks would help?

I liked the idea and it looks good!
But it's a bit buggy. For example the placing of the lines which lagg a lot. And if you press spacebar a few times you keep loading new things.

I needed 3 "new game" before understand what to do but once I have it, really fun to play! The idea is good and well executed (and I think the system was not simple to build). So good job for that.
That would be better with just a little sound design no?
The game feets the jam's theme so for me, that's a big YES!

It's a very interesting concept and definitely a unique one. I like your color palette as well. It's clear that a lot of work went into it.

The gameplay itself is sadly hindered by bugs. Drawing the path reacts inconsistently. Sometimes you can draw a straight line, sometimes you can't. Sometimes your line just changes into other shapes. Maybe all those drawing issues are just caused by lagging.

It's also not immediately apparent, which buildings will have deliveries once you start the day. Maybe distinguishing those from the rest of the area (with some color stroke or icons) would be helpful in the planning stage.

Some more feedback would also be welcome. Some SFX or effect that would indicate actual pickup of deliveries, for example.

This did make me feel like Jeff Bezos

Unfortunately, at some point a drone got stuck between two buildings and couldn't move, so the game soft locked. Seems like something that happens to amazon drones, so I didn't mind it.

First of all I love the idea. Second of all I like the execution and how well the game function. It gives your nice feel of progression and makes you strategize your moves. Graphics and movement is cute, I like how the game feels overall.

The only problem I have is the trajectory drawing, it is a big laggy and sometimes makes weird shapes. But that's just a minor thing that would be normally polished, so I think for a game jam this is really good!

I really liked the main concept. It was very fun to play but also i found it hard to tell if i was doing a right thing. Still, very fun game

Funny game! I stopped playing the day I raised 400 points, it's infinite right?

The road construction was a little hard at first, but it's pretty cool for a Jam!

I like the concept and the implementation of the theme, could be better with sounds, I think needs more feedback on the mechanics, maybe see some gameplay could be nice, I can´t delete the lines with SUPR, is not clear where you need to deliver, the story is funny, the aliens are cute, good work!

Solid GFX Style. It can be an interesting big game in future! Don't stop working on it please!

It's a cool idea, but there's room for improvement. I started the game without really knowing what to do. The instructions on this page helped, but an in-game tutorial would have been a lot better. It wasn't immediately clear where the drones were supposed to be delivering to, so even though I knew how to draw routes, I wasn't sure where they should go. It looks like the delivery spots only appear after you start the day, during the day.

The path creation could have used more visual feedback, e.g. it's nice to be able to see where a path I'm placing is going to appear before I click. I also think the paths should have snapped to a grid -- I didn't like seeing janky kinks just because I clicked a few pixels too high or low.

Nonetheless, good job getting something playable in the short timeframe of the jam!

a very unique idea, but i had a hard time executing. i think your instructions were fine, but it may be that the game is buggy? it was hard to move lines, and the mechanic itself was a little strange. i understand this is hard to do in a jam so i for sure give you credit for coming up with an new interesting idea. thanks for making the game.

Nice graphics and unique idea. I think the mechanic is hard to explain and understand until you get it, then it's better. GJ!
