The White Dude by A.Bond

[raw]
made by A.Bond for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

The White Dude is a little puzzle with some teeny-tiny platformer flavor.

You play as a white (literally, #FFF) dude that can turn into a light to ~~pass~~ deliver himself through some obstacles.

:headphones: Headphones usage is highly recommended! :headphones:

:runner: There is a speedrunners-(un)friendly mode called "New Game+" :runner:

Sorry, no Web build this time - Godot 4 is too broken and I have realized it too late.

Controls:

  • A/D (Or Left stick on gamepad) - walk left/right
  • W/A/S/D + Space (Or some random buttons on gamepad) - transform
  • Space (Or some random buttons on gamepad) - interact
  • R (Or Select) - restart level
  • Shift + R (Or Start) - restart game

New game+:

After you finish the game once, there is a "New game+" mode available. It gives you a bit more freedom and more ~~bugs~~ features intended for speedrunners. Score gained in this mode can be submitted to an online leaderboard.

Nice use of music there. It's always nice to see Godot entries growing in Ludum Dare. I liked the game but I felt like you could have explored the theme a bit more. Good entry!

This game has some superb audio, some of the best I've heard. The mechanics are also interesting in theory, but it feels like they're never really utilized fully. There aren't very many levels, and they're all very easy. Also, for a game that's supposed to emphasize speedrunning, the process of transforming into light and bouncing around feels slow.

Is the lever in the last level just a trap or is there something more to it?

Yep, it's just a trap. Unlike the frog

Simple, but a decent game, gj making something finished in a jam's time constraint. My main criticism is that everything could have been a bit faster - walking and especially "phasing"(?) animation. I like that you've added leaderboards, it adds to the replayability.

I liked the overall concept and the realisation. It's cool to play with, and i really dig the old-school vibe on this one!

Mechanic and gameplay are nice, and puzzles sometimes try do tricky things. Sound is good.
But in my opinion, that not relate to theme (or I don't understand how).
Btw, good work!

i must admit that while it was a fun litle game i think that since you enfazised speedrunning so much you schould have made it more speedrun frendly, like faster aniamtion, faster movements ecc..., also it had some intrsting idea, but it feels like you held back a lil bit, anyway great job

I really liked this entry. Nice puzzler that added some cool elements. I love the simplistic character and the subtle animations for it. Often simple art loses personality, but the eyes getting bigger when you fall was really entertaining and you gave the art enjoyable quirks throughout. Similarly, the music felt simple but got the details right - the filtering while you were traveling through the barriers was a fantastic touch. The music grew in a really satisfying way, I just wish there was more of it. Gameplay added some cool elements as well - getting caught infinitely bouncing back and forth by going the "obvious" route was nice (glad there was a quick restart). There's definitely a lot of room to add more mechanics, but this is a solid foundation. As other's said, speeding this up for speedrun purposes would be great, but I'm glad you added that functionality.

I like the idea and the atmosphere created by the graphics and audio, but I feel like this needs a lot more levels to reach its full potential. I think you also ramped up the difficulty much too slowly -- for a lot of the game I felt like I was just ambling through the levels rather than thinking or trying to solve puzzles. The levels started getting a bit trickier around when the frog appeared... and then it was all over. :( I'd be keen for more of this!

This feels a lot like the kind of game you'd play on your parents' computer as a kid and be unable to find again as an adult. It has that mysterious whimsical charm to it. Good work!

In my opinion, the character could move a little faster in the "light form", but it is just my personal preference. Besides that, really fun game with nice art style and potential to expand, by creating more levels.

neat idea, not fond of the artstyle clash, wish you either did all or none of the art doe
