Once upon a delivery... by SayuriNyooko

[raw]
made by SayuriNyooko for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

*Little Red Riding Hood is going to visit her Grandmother. Again! *

But the path is getting scarier and darker therefore generous Granny has gave to Red Hood some powers. Each part of the path you can choose which upgrade is better for you.

To deliver a pie you have to run as fast as you can, throw rocks to big and hungry wolves and try not to lost in the woods.

There are so many evil creatures in the woods, be careful!

This game was hilarious, I loved the wolves dancing animation and every time they appeared they gave me a great time! The gameplay is very interesting, a Vampire Survivors - like game where you have to move from point a to point b sounds like a good idea, I only wished there were more wolves to kill. Great time!

Nice small game !
The visuals and music are great, good job on that ! The powerups are cool but maybe too powerful
Maybe you wanted to add more obstacles but when I went in the forest (even just a little outside the road) I often found myself stuck between flower or grass and wolves.
But overall the game was cool

Visuals are awesome! Camera angle could've been controlable. I stucked in rocks and trees a lot. Music was great.

Sometimes I get stuck in the grassy areas, is that normal? The graphics are pretty detailed, good job on that.

@terry-crow Yes, it's okay, all grass and flowers have a collision. Sorry for the inconvenience! And thank you for playing!

Loved the graphics, nice low-poly style that was simple but still looked nice. Music fit the game even if you didn't make it. The theme, you can't get much better than that, little red riding hood's story fits the jam's theme perfectly. It was pretty innovative, I know there are a couple games (even a soulslike) that are based off little red riding hood, but this one made a lot of sense choosing that story considering the jam's theme. Concept is fun and interesting, I think it has potential as a roguelike with procedural generation. The gameplay was fun too, though there are a couple issues, mostly balance. Everything has a collider so when I got stuck after taking a detour I was wondering why I couldn't move, turns out the flowers were stopping me lol. If it didn't look as silly I'd say it's a good feature though because it forces the player to follow the road, and then when the road ends it gives a good challenge. This challenge doesn't exist though if you happen to get the dash powerup, it feels and acts like a teleport button that gets you past all the obstacles in the way so you can beeline towards the objective, so I think the overall balance of the game could be improved upon.

Overall great game, main criticism is balance. One thing I loved about the game is that you implemented an arrow above the player to point towards an objective. I tried the same thing in my game but you made yours way better than mine lol.

The game was a bit buggy (dash outside of map, blocking on small grass) but the fun from the game was so big that I ignored most of the bugs. I liked the original artstyle (especially paths made of leaves). I think that everybody knows the Little Red Riding Hood story, but I think it would be nice to see it explicitly shown in the game

@stellarr2 Thank you for such a detailed review. Yeah, collisions are a big problem. We actually had a proper collisions for our models, but I couldn't make them work properly in Godot. So we had to use models as collisions. And to be honest, there is no balance. We've spent too much time trying to get collisions working, so we didn't have much time to playtest. I was literally adding half of our abilities in the game at night before jam's ending. So all abilities stats are basically random. Also, there was a cool laser ability, that it was too bugged, so I had to cut it out from the game. Dash was supposed to be nerfed, but I didn't have to time to fix it and remove wall-clipping. Implementing an arrow was actually not that hard. I wanted to make it similar to arrow in "Vampire survivors", but that is much harder.

I always love upgrade systems. It would have been nice if upgrades were more frequent or the game were longer so you can get a build going to the point where you can really fight the wolves. The camera transitions and view through trees could use some work. I spawned in one time being attacked during while the camera was still moving, and even after the transition I could only see trees.

Good game, I like its low-poly modeling. Low-poly modeling always gives me a cartoonish and friendly feeling. Well done, developers! Hope you get a good score!

good concept, camera blocks you from seeing anything 90% of the time though so you're just getting stuck, the snap to the new location also kept leaving me starting with a wolf already on me! (their models seem to jitter and spaz out once they touch you). Extremely hard to see the attacks too.

Stucking in the grass is the most bad, but it could make sense, like its annoyance indicates you must not walk there.
Wolfs so jelly, so at least your death looks fun.

I think it's a really cute and charming game, the music is pretty good and I like the overall idea and theme!

Wolfs have funny jiggly animations!
The graphics are shiny ^^
Since it's Godot a web export would have been nice. And the environment is well built. It feels wild and natural with a lot of randomness, like in nature!

@jiexdrop Yes, it's a Godot. But our game requires features from "Forward+" mode, and web build doesn'ta work for that mode, unfortunately. Hopefully, we'll do a better job for the next jam and there will be a web build
