Jitto by osullivp

[raw]
made by osullivp for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Jitto is a game about getting parcels out just-in-time from a warehouse and is my first ever submission for a Game Jam. The name 'Jitto' is a combination of the acronym 'JIT' (as in just-in-time) and the word 'ditto', referring to the two protagonists in the game. The design takes cues from the 1983 classic Game & Watch title 'Super Mario Bros.'.

The game was developed using the Microsoft Makecode Arcade platform with art and music created inside Makecode but also using Procreate (iPad) plus the Windows apps Paint 3D and Paint.

Instructions:

Use the warehouse operatives to move the parcels up the conveyor. Position the operatives at the end of the conveyor belt in order to catch parcels and move them up to the next level.

  • Control the left warehouse operative with the 'Up' and 'Down' stick
  • Control the right warehouse operative with the 'A' and 'B' buttons

A cute little enjoyable game. Happy to see such a loving reference to monochrome hand-helds, truly fits that genre perfectly. The splash screen is a great touch! A nice idea, well executed. Well done!

Pretty interesting game and the gameboy idea itself is very cool. I like the game and the graphics. Yes, it's simple, but it's nice enough

A nice and simple little game, honestly I would work more on the package spawning logic, sometimes it's a bit fast if you just delivered and it can be too slow after you loose a package.

Hi @thezane. Thanks for your comments. Agreed on the spawn rate. It uses quite a naive implementation with the Makecode Arcade in-built "% chance" feature. As a result the output is a bit 'lumpy' in terms of how regularly packages are released.

A fun little throwback to an older style of games. Challenging once you get a couple packages going at a time.

Felt like a kid again playing a little LCD game I got in a happy meal 😅

Super cute! Although it felt like there were many impossible situations where the timing would make it required to be two places at onc.

Hello, nice cover art! I appreciate the game's nostalgia. I played a few rounds and had a high score that hovered at 1000. At first I thought that the packages were spawning in waves, but reading the comments I suppose not. The scenario where a warehouse operative was needed on multiple conveyors at the same time became more frequent as more packages rolled in, and the only strategy I could come up with was to spam up or down after package receipt so that I could make it in time to the next conveyor. It would be nice to have a way to counter that more, but other than that congrats on the entry!

My late father played a similar game. This game really touched me. Excellent game.

Loved the vibe of the title screen, the controls being on screen adds such a nice sense of immersion as well. Would have been neat to have some music going during the game itself, I was bopping to the title screen.

Neat Game and Watch game. Really dug the old handheld game visual. Simple but fun. Great job!

Nice little game. How often packages arrive is a bit off, sometimes there are none, while sometimes loads arrive. But otherwise a great entry.

I liked the style, and the controls were easy to pick up! Not sure if it broke or if it was meant to happen, but once I got to 300 points no more boxes spawned

Cool game! I like the old school Game & Watch vibe. It fun trying to manage two different characters and it can get pretty challenging and hectic at times.

There were a few situations where no packages spawned for 10 seconds or so, which seemed kind of odd.

Fun game, simple yet engaging! I liked the art style and enjoyed the challenge of controlling 2 players at once. It would be nice to add some music during the gameplay, similar to the great music from the title screen.

Simple and entertaining. The visuals are quite old fashion, wished there was more
