Overview

Welcome to Boxbrawl Delivery! Run n' jump, grab n' go, and haul n' brawl with the best delivery service in the business!

Take the role of Carter, deliveryman for Zaplift, aiming to satisfy the town and score a good tip! With plenty of pests running amok (and with your co-worker Carrie watching over the inventory), it's up to you to ensure your customers get their goods in one piece! Can you deliver on your promises, or will your customers' ratings say otherwise?

Controls

Move - Arrow Keys or WASD Jump - Z or K Throw - X or J Pause - Enter

Tips

  • Aim with up or down before throwing
  • Throw boxes at enemies to stun them
  • Deliver a box while enemies are stunned for more points
  • Avoid letting boxes hit the floor from too high or from reckless throwing
  • Getting hit drops your box and subtracts 15 seconds from the timer
  • Lose a chance if the box is destroyed, time reaches zero or your ratings are too low
  • Extra chance at $500 and $1000

This game is very fun and creative. The mechanics are simple, yet make room for so much skill expression from the player. Risk and reward is here, and it's very fulfilling to interact with. Juggling the boxes across enemies while keeping a speedy pace feels incredibly therapeutic, and is only enhanced by the fantastic feel of the controls themselves. I love the aesthetic this game has because of its ability to have consistency with "Annalynn" while also feeling fresh and new. I can't wait to play more games made by Cruise Elroy.

Awesome job, dude! I've always loved the original Mario Bros. Arcade, and I think this mixes up that classic formula perfectly!

Also, really love the sprite work, it looks exactly like it's from a mix of SMB1 and Mario Bros, but it's not on the nose, it's very pleasant!

Wow, I was not expecting to get nostalgia for Mappy, especially considering I hardly played that game. Your game does such a great job of emulating classic games while simultaneously being a fun and super well polished experience in it of itself. Simply outstanding job!

Spectacular!! Amazing arcade game- risk-reward, lots of fun emergent stuff going on, tons of little details and wonderful additions... just a top notch entry! You captured that very certain part of the arcade-era very well, but it definitely feels a lot more responsive and even-handed than some of its inspirations. Also, just all around beautiful animation and extremely well-done (but not OVER done!) spritework, especially for the coworker who hangs out in the van. My high score is $1214.5, but I could probably beat it with a few more attempts. :-) (Oh, and PS: I almost forgot to mention- the 'package damage' mechanic is genius, and really encourages taking strategic risks and getting creative with throws- really reminded of Spelunky in that way!)

Really, really nice. Great emulation of classic pixel art styles, perfect little chiptune SFX. And just like the classics: way too hard for me, but I keep retrying.

It's the best LD 53 game I've played so far. We recognize the inspiration of Mario Bros. And I love the NES style. It would have been nice if you could jump on the enemy from below like in the original game. Anyway, nice job! :thumbsup:

Cool game! And quite difficult as well. Was a bit surprised I cannot kill enemies by stepping on them (Mario-like appearance can be deceiving).

Visuals are great, sfx are very atmospheric, no bugs noticed. Great entry!

X THROWS THE PACKAGE??? MY HEART 🤣

Was really fun. Got through the first two levels. Sound and graphics are authentic. Physics is great. Lack of attacks against the mice was really frusterating, as far as I could tell you just have to wait for them.

edit: Never mind, I read the controls. Game's a lot more playable realizing I can stun enemies without damaging the goods 😀 Still a tough game, but super authentic and with enough patience it's definitely surmountable.

I really liked this game! It was fun!
The classic NES feeling and sound is amazing. I see much inspiration taken from old the old mario bros game. I also feel like it is well balanced. Could easily kill more time than I would like to with this game.

The graphics and audio are an amazing throwback! I kept imagining I could jump on the critters, which made my customers less than happy. Overall, the game had an abundance of fun and challenge. Well done!

Excellent little game. Just the right scope for the jam. Controls feel excellent, graphics and sound are authentic. One of the best I've played so far!

Love it. Nailed the theme. Hits on the retro style and feels great to play, but I wish there was a power up to play with too, especially for the extra pesky pests. Sometimes it felt like there was nothing to do except tank the hits. Great game overall, congrats!

Awesome, huge Annalyn fan, I really enjoyed this, a mix between SMB and the original Mario bros arcade game, levels are clever, feels fun to stun 3 enemies at once and then go to the door for big points! Despite it being styled after NES it feels so polished. Well done.

Authentic retro experience. I'm in love with the graphics and sound - just *chefs kiss*. Gameplay is difficult but I imagine you could get quite good at it given time.

Loved the homage to one of my favourite arcade/Black Box games. It really nailed the look and feel of those early NES games and almost made me want to port it to the NES myself being that weirdo who makes NES games for LD :joy:

Great game! I liked the Mario/Mailman mashup.
Great retro style, great juice, great mechanics. You can use the package to kill enemies, but it's risky, you may break the package which is your first priority!

Absolutely nailed the NES era aesthetics, right on down to the audio and responses and everything. The callback to the past was astounding, it actually made me want to take up NES again, especially for those cryptic games I never saw the ending of.

This is just excellent. Totally faithful to the early 80s NES games. Simple mechanics but executed to perfection! Absolutely loved the entire presentation, especially the responses from the customers

I had one look at this game and knew I had to play it! The execution of making your own Mario Bros inspired game was fantastic! You even captured the jittering walking animation from the original game. Excellent work!

Love the attention to detail in creating a faithful retro game. Game mechanics are super straightforward and the game plays exactly how I'd have expected a full release to play in the 80s. I honestly can't really think of any constructive criticism. Nicely done, and good luck in the jam!

The classic graphics, music, and gameplay are all outstanding. It brings back such nostalgic memories of playing Mario Bros. as a kid (the one in smb3). Well Done.

Just a super polished early NES style game, I can see this being released as an NES game today for retro game enthusiasts. Game feel is great, the mechanics of throwing packages to kill enemies is tricky but satisfying when you get the hang of it. One nitpick is the lack of game music, but this is totally understandable given similar games of the era.

Just excellent. It's a great twist on Mario Bros and captures that classic arcade games, black box NES games vibes (something you are good at, Annalynn is fantastic). The art and sound are perfect and the gameplay fun, though too challenging for me! I really struggled when the number of rats increased.

Great classic feel, not only in the visuals,but also the sound and feel of the physics. Difficulty was just right IMO, challenging as I would expect it to be in the classic style. Nice take on the theme and suitable homage to the greats, No complaints.
