Midnight Muffin Delivery Service by Tyler M

[raw]
made by Tyler M for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

You're working the night shift! Launch muffins from a cannon to deliver them to customers and collect tips along the way! The hungry customers will keep the lights on in their homes or vehicles.

For best performance, I recommend downloading the desktop application file to run the game. The desktop application can be switched to windowed mode with the escape key and back to full-screen with the "1" key.

I made this game by myself! If you like my art please consider checking out my other work: https://www.instagram.com/laundrypileart/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP1WQ_gQ6X5p5E44SJOwWqg

Nice work, that's a very cosy little game. Graphics look nice, music and sound effects fit well and the gameplay is very solid. It felt a bit random how the parachute worked, was it completely random or was there some logic which direction it went after deploying.

It felt kinda difficult to collect coins from the edges as it felt completely random where the muffin went after deployment and whether a customer happened to spawn there.

Anyways, very nice game. Good job!

I really like the mood of the game, it's so relaxing. The game in itself is quite difficult though, it's really hard to reach both the tips and a customer. Maybe having a way to visualize how the muffin will fall would help.

Good job nonetheless !

Really nice game, i really like the parachute, but the wind system made it a bit hard to use maybe a visual indication of where it was going and how hard could make it easier. But very fun game, on a larger scale (more things to throw muffins at, or different levels) i could spend hours on this.

@kuggenhoffen
Thanks! The parachute is affected by wind speed, and there are environmental clues about the speed and trajectory of the wind, but if I had more time, I would have done more to communicate this to the player, possibly with UI.

@reo-silmetal I'm glad you enjoyed the mood of the game; I worked really hard on that! Yeah, I like to make my games difficult to encourage replay-ability, but I understand it's a difficult balance that I'm trying to improve upon. I appreciate your feedback!

@artatruc Yeah, it sounds like I could have implemented the wind system a bit better, but I'm glad you were able to enjoy the game regardless! Thanks for playing!

Very fun game, very polished, great visual styles and music! I'm so sad everytime I ran out of muffins and it restarted me, you should have some screen telling the player that the bakery is closed for the night

Pleasant graphics and relaxing gameplay. I especially love the little car bobbing up and down animation. It felt very polished, which is hard to do for a short game jam.

Great game, very cute graphics and fun. My only concern is the wind is kind of random. How do I know it goes left or right? I haven't figured that out

Very pleasant visuals and music. The gameplay is quite challenging but addictive. I didn't realize right away that I could use a parachute.

Really cosy game, and quite challenging. I love the visuals, they are gorgeous, and the audio just adds to the charm!

Took me a few test launches to realize there was changing wind and then that the clouds were the indicator.

I didn't really care for the cash, making sure the muffin got delivered was enough of a challenge for me. I also didn't realize grabbing the cash without a successful delivery still grants you points, feels counter-intuitive. I would honestly just get rid of the cash as I find it a bit distracting from the lovely environment and base mechanics, but that's very personal.

My only real complaint is the reset of the screen (fade to black and reset of vehicle positions) after each launch, it gets me out of the flow a bit.

With that said your game is awesome, great job!

Very calming and pretty game. The music and art really add to the atmosphere. The gameplay is pretty intuitive to pick up as well. If you wanted to develop it further, it would be awesome to be able to deploy powerups or something to make it easier to hit the money in the sky (I missed just about every time haha). Great job!

So it's like a shooter, but instead of cannons you show love with muffins <3 That's smart! I really like the visuals and the overall atmosphere. Well done!

Excellent game! The idea and the mechanics that you implemented were very funny, the art is very cute and the style reminds me of the old NES games (thanks for that jaja!). Congratulations, great entry!

hahahaha muffins go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This was fun, and relaxing, and the art felt very cohesive! Adding a controllable parachute added quite a lot to the strategy of it, too. Thank you!

This is genuinely brilliant, especially for a solo effort! The graphics are gorgeous, the game plays really well, it has a nice feeling of skill and learning to it! About the only thing I could think to try would to be give more indication of how powerful the shot is going to be (ie. a parabola), but I think that'd ultimately go against the feel of the game.

Fantastic!

@lee-martin-77 Thanks a lot! I've considered that, but I think I'd either have to scrap the timing-based power-meter or create a parabola that's constantly changing, and I'm afraid the latter option could look hectic and go against the relaxing aesthetic that I'm going for. Technically I could scrap the timing mechanic for the power-meter, but I'm also fond of that because it introduces challenge and makes my game have more in common with golf games I've played. My hope was that the parachute would give players more control and help them make adjustments to their shot (after getting a feel for how the wind works).

Really interesting idea, though I feel the gameplay felt a bit too random for me. I think it just kind of needs something to help the player, whether that's a parabola, or a bit of in-air control, or a controllable power meter, different wind layers, something. I really really liked the mood and audio of the game and it kept me playing, but I had a very hard time getting a score anywhere beyond like 2200.

Cute game. I like the art and music, very chill. Also I like the canon concept. The power bar is very neat and visually pleasing. Controlling the angle is also very smooth. Gravity was tuned well. Nice job!

Really cool game, I dig the idea and execution. The physics are done really well, the objective is clear and pretty hard to reach. I spent a good few minutes on some score chase - it was really enjoying. Overall this is a really solid jam entry, congrats!

Awesome graphics, the entire DA works really well. I had to run the game twice to properly understand how the game works, and once I did it was fun to play and nicely challenging. Great job :)
