Verses & Vibes by Madbarron
A single poem can have many interpretations. In Verses & Vibes, you will attempt to convey a particular emotion while reading an excerpt from a poem. Then you will listen to others' recordings of the same poem and try to guess what emotion they are conveying.
In Verses & Vibes, the content is the same for everyone. What changes is the delivery.
- Features six poems by two poets
- Works on computer, tablet, or phone
- Requires a microphone and speakers
- Only English is supported for now
How it Works
Everyone reads the same poem but is assigned a different vibe to portray in their delivery. Try to figure out how your assigned vibe can be used to interpret the poem. After you submit your recording, you will listen to another player's recording and attempt to guess which vibe they are conveying with their oration.
You don't have to answer correctly to continue. You may keep listening to other orators give different interpretations of the poem or move on to the next poem. There are six poems in total. The last two are tricky and it's okay if you aren't up to the challenge

Fun and unique!
@crimoudin that's a great idea to start off by listening. I will definitely implement that in a post-jam version. For now I have added more information to this page to help folks out :)
Thanks for playing everybody and cheers to @khaotom for making it to the end 👏🏻
EDIT: Loved every minute of this. I apologize in advance for pretending to be Captain Kirk.
EDIT2: Er... not in advance, I guess.
Shoutout to Kiera, your performances were so clear. Also @frabjous-studios XDXD the first time I heard it i thought you were using the log as a way of like setting a tone. It was funny XD
(I am moop hehe)
Visually there is obviously not much to go on - but it's a very nice bit of web design. Very clean.
The poem choices were very good. When I woke up this morning I didn't think I'd be doing a rendition of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, that's for sure!
My pick of the jam - easily, and my only 5 star rating!
I am so deeply sorry for shitting up your game with my frankly embarrassing voice acting 🤣
i do think that the line between curious, playful, and whimsical is a bit blurry and those were the vibes i definitely mixed up the most often when listening to other people's recordings. i also wish that i could redo some of my first recordings... ;_;
i hope that you'll add more levels ^^
I also wanted to mention that I shared your game with some of my friends to spread the excitement.
Nothing much to add, fantastic job!
On another note, today is the 136th anniversary of the death of Emily Dickinson. RIP
@eriku Thanks! I was surprised by the level of challenge in recording the poems. Do you have any ideas for dealing with "questionable" recordings? I have removed a handful of recordings from folks who were clearly not trying, but I'm not sure how to balance the experience of the recorder with that of the listener in terms of content moderation.
I want to thank each of you for sharing a thought on our project. Your performances, your reactions, and your inspired input caught me off guard and honestly touched me.

I would like to share a personal story and some of my thoughts on where I would like to take this. Over the past year, I have started therapy and I have been in the process of learning so much about anxiety, ASD, ADHD, BPD, and other "neurospicy" conditions as they may relate to myself, my therapy, and diagnosed friends and loved ones. Even after reading books and having professionals tell me things soberly, it ultimately took this experience. Listening to your voices and seeing the prompts helped me finally understand just how impaired my auditory emotional processing and expression is. In particular how my anxiety really does make me think people are mad or upset when they aren't. I am passionate about spreading awareness because of the enormous and wonderful changes that that have taken root in my life. The fact that performance and my love of poetry played a small role in this story brings me so much joy.
With so many good ideas we have a lot to sort through, and thankfully no shortage of amazing and diverse public domain content to make episodes. My sincere hope is that in the process of building this into something bigger, cleaner, and making the game more fun, maybe just maybe a few of you might learn about yourselves too. That would mean a lot to me.
