Unwanted Delivery

Unwanted Delivery is a rather unconventional, hopefully humorous, game about a pigeon that tries to make a fortune with a car wash company. This is our first game jam so we are very happy about (also critical) feedback. Bug reports are also of course welcome (We are aware of the fact that cars sometimes crash into each another).

You can play the game via the html5 version above or through downloading the html5 / windows builds below (Further platform builds might follow).

WARNING

  • It is not adviced to mimic the driving skills shown in this game in real-life.
  • This business concept might not work in real-life. Care should be taken when pursuing similar projects.
  • The source code is sadly currently unavailable for download as it looks like a pigeon shat on it (No, really!). When it is properly refactored and interest exists it might get released on GitHub in the future.

Controls

  • A: turn left
  • D: turn right
  • STRG or W: dash
  • SPACE: drop shit on car

Wait... Is this game inspired by some real world events?...
Well for the first 4 playthrough, I was not able to collect a single dollar.:D
But after that, I got the feel of it. Good scope, quite polished game for a gamejam! Maybe turn down the hawk-sound effect just a bit!
Also the texts are funny, not only in the game, but on the Ludum page as well.
All in all, nice job! :)

Maybe fewer hawks, had fun flying and trying earn money but kept getting killed by the hawks before I could still fun though.

@movealonghome you're right, the difficulty balancing isn't perfect. The game was too easy at first, so we added more hawks. Which made the game definitely more difficulty than we expected it to.

Haha yea those eagles will get you. It's tough out there in the "advertising" business

Funny, but too hard. It took me a long time to get into at least one car. Eagles are too aggressive. However, when I learned it became playable. Perhaps it was worth making several levels and starting with an easier one. It is a pity that there is no development of mechanics. I would like to buy some improvements for the money earned. Generally dizzying. Oh yeah, I got sick from the rotating camera.

One Pigeon to rule them all, One Pigeon to find them, One Pigeon to bring them all, and in ~~the darkness bind them~~ bright daylight shit on all of their cars... for money! Really like the idea, story and description itself! While the camera can make you a bit nauseous in the beginning, I can also see the advantage, as a fixed camera could be tricky when flying "towards" you and effectively having reversed left and right. The game is quite hard in the beginning, but it's possible to dodge the eagles, as long as they don't approach right from the front, in which case I often didn't see a way to avoid them. Maybe an evasive maneuver that let's you pass through eagles unharmed for a short time frame could be an option? Had a lot of fun though :)

The eagles were impossible to escape at first, once I learned how to avoid them they just became annoying though, I never had time to go and splat cars because another one would always appear hot on my tail.

I wasn't bothered by the camera rotation, but when I first started playing it felt disorienting and I thought it might bother other people.

Adding a highscore counter would probably fix the feeling of needing to use the money for something that a previous comment mentioned.

Other than than that, nice game! It was fun to play during the times between eagle escapades :P

PS: Great game name too!

Nice game! It was fun to try it out. Short feedback: car could have been a little bit bigger, right now it is quite hard to hit them; eagles are really hard to avoid, they are faster than the player and can maneuver quite well, I would suggest to leave the speed as it is, so they are still challenging, but making their turning angle bigger, so player can outmaneuver them. Also, "We are aware of the fact that cars sometimes crash into each another" I would say that is quite realistic... :D Anyway, good job with the game and good luck, if you want to develop it further!

It is very hard. I consider it a win that, I was able to give one car its advertisement :)

The Humor and the Art is really good.

It gives a bit of motion sickness and it is also quite difficult but I liked the concept and the humor :-P Congrats!

Similar-ish theme to my entry :)

It was a little difficult to hit the cars, but it's a fun game!

loved the concept, but I share others' woes about the eagles  I wish there was some feedback about when your dash was available, and maybe a bit more leniency when splatting the cars

@donutshoes There actually is some feedback to indicate when the dash is available again. When you listen closely you should hear a faint sound when the dash refreshes. Maybe we should have made it a little bit louder.

@Creeepsy whoops I missed that! I think visual feedback would have helped as well, like a charging bar or something. That would also help the hard of hearing to know when the dash was available!
