Paleo Pickup by auxC

made by auxC for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

The first delivery driver in history meets the neediest client!

  • Explore the map in a quest to find and deliver ancient foodstuffs of all kinds: Meat! Onions! And Pizza?
  • Punch everybody as many times as is needed to pick up your order
  • Get money for delivering items requested by your insatiable client
  • Want to punch harder? Buy gear, trinkets and Eggs. Spoiler: the eggs in our game make perfect sense scientifically speaking...

This game is an automatic battler. Use items at the right time to avoid damage and find clever ways to juggle targets to get to those pesky Rock Throwers in the background.

Controls:

  • Click on items to use them in combat. Every item has a unique ability you can abuse. Even the Egg. Especially the Egg!
  • Click on adjacent nodes to travel in the Overworld
  • That's it! Don't die

Tip: All the items you were tasked to deliver are visible in the top right corner!

The amount of work is amazing. Nice idea and combat system. I got a bit lost because I didn't see the little ingredients above the tile on the map. After that it went nice. Maybe having a bit more control in combat would be cool.
Again great entry for this jam, good job !

This game rules! I like that a lot of the attacks and items interact physically in the world, so for example you can avoid a stone throw by shoveling an enemy before they throw it. At first I didn't see the shortcut to go home but that's pretty much my only gripe. Great job!

Awesome work! Super fun. I got my butt kicked the first couple of times I tried playing, but by the third attempt I started to have some success. I also didn't see the shortcut to jump home until way to late (probably why I got killed so quickly the first couple of attempts). Super fun mechanics and a great experience. Awesome stuff!!!

Wow, there's so much going on! The map view is really slick, I had fun planning my day trips. And the auto battler was really neat! The pacing of earning items was just right. Took me a few tries, but it was super satisfying when I finally won. The only thing that would have made the first run better would be to tell the player when items are single use. But once I realized then I just played different, and saved all my wooly egg boys till the red zones! Great game as usual! Very innovative!

This game is absolutely sick! I could never tell it was made in only 3 days. The art is splending and the gameplay is really addicting, and especially the powerups are super rewarding. I really could not find many flaws except I guess maybe have some sort of stat level up beyond just the powerups, after a while it becomes a really grindy back and forth since going too far out risks you dying

Wow this game is great, figuring out the optimal ways to use your abilities was very satisfying (like shoveling to make them miss a stone toss!). And the economy was very well balanced. I didn't realize that I could return teleport home the first time around, so I think I made it a lot harder on myself having to walk back home just to heal :joy: Great submission!

Fun game! The surprising amount of strategy that you could employ with the shovel was really enjoyable.

Hey guys, I do like the way how it looks & feels! I played through (was wondering what will the very first delivery customer say, if I'll bring him a cactus), and I can say that I do like how it feels
The game mechanic is rather simple, but very funny to play with. Nicely done!

Really fun entry! I could definitely play this for hours if worked out. The power-creep is pretty intense but since this is a jam game i think that's actually a good thing

The game looks completely done! Amazing work! I had a lot of fun to running around map, beating enemies and delivering things. Especially thanks for the funny tools to help player beating the enemies.
Good luck!

so polished game for a jam entry, it's crazy good. I think the only thing what would improve it would be a very shot, basic tutorial, but it doesn't take that long to figure out what's up. Very nicely done!

Thank You! There's a button on the map at the right bottom corner that will teleport You home. You don't have to walk back all the nodes :).

Really nice game! I've not really played a game like this before and it took me a while to get the rhythm, but I really got into it! Lovely graphics and sound and vibe. Would've appreciated a way of telling the one-time-only items from the infinite-uses, but for next time!

"ME GRUG. GRUG LIKE. GAME GUD." - Grug

(Google Translate from Caveman: We really loved the artstyle for all the graphics and UI, and the whole package was very cute!)

Very impressive entry. There is just a lot of game, while being very well polished. I felt that the combat was pretty straightforward as I found myself basically just using every non-consumable as fast and often as I could, but getting upgrades and pushing on further felt very satisfying still.

Quite neat! Some thoughts:
I wish I could have used hotkeys for activating items instead of having to click.
I was disappointed that I couldn't tell the difference between one time use and permanent items. It made sense to me that potions were consumables, but not eggs.
It wasn't obvious to me that I could just warp home, I thought I had to walk across the map each time. It might make sense to make that option a bit bigger and clearer?

Okay I got my rear handed to me, but I managed to beat it on my third try! That was a nice and funny little game! It was fun time the item usage to get the most of them and the caveman friend had fun dialogue.

@gametrodon Hotkeys sounds like a great idea. We get a lot of feedback about the single use items and the "go home" button. We'll try to adress that in a post LD update :). Personally I'm surprised noone complained about lack of healthbars. That was one of the main things i wanted our team to improve, but there was no time for it :d
Thank You for playing our game! :)

Interesting little game, would've liked to have more input on what my character does. Besides that, very nice.

Great work on this entry than can be a complete mobile game ! I would like a more progressive difficulty, and a possibility to continue too. The art and design is very well done and the sound too. That hilarious to play caverman with a food truck, well done !

Its a fun game, though it got old kinda fast. I think that the problem is that there really isn't any choice in anything that happens.
