Wrath of Joey Bob, son of Garharanth by jandourek

[raw]
made by jandourek for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Outrun an impending doom (the titular Joey Bob) in your trusty makeshift truck, and deliver as many boxes to the other side of the desert as you can!

  • Wacky physics-based action!
  • Deceptively simple truck controls (just a single pedal and button)
  • Use your shotgun to slow down the creeping horror (and to move boxes around).
  • Hard mode!

Controls:

  • Arrow keys - move + jump
  • E - hold/drop boxes and shotgun
  • Spacebar - shoot
  • Escape - toggle fullscreen

Fun!! Getting the truck rolling and then hanging on for dear life was excellent. I didn't get far enough to see if the shotgun ever came into it. It reminded me a bit of Little Big Planet, which is great!

Minor nitpicks are that WASD should allow you to move, and having to load the boxes onto the vehicle every time was a bit tedious. Other than that, loads of fun - thanks for making it!

Keep up the great work :D

hi, i really liked the art (especially background) and the music fits really well!
found placing the boxes inside the truck a bit too complicated, i'd prefer if in the regular mode boxes would already be places inside

Game is definitely hard! I also think boxes should be already placed inside upon starting, but I did enjoy figuring out the physics around it. One thing I really liked about it was the mood, big sunset with a banger music and a chasing sequence. Good job!

Lovely graphics and great sound design. At the start it was kinda annoying to get things going but once you understand the mechanics and get set up it gets really fun!

I was not able to run it, but maybe I am just missing some driver updates :(

That's a good game, I really like it! Wonderful physics. Thank you!

It was kind of difficult loading the boxes into the truck. I think I accidentally pushed one of them into the accelerator and made the truck drive away before I loaded the last three boxes. BGM and SFX kind of quiet. Couldn't hear much despite playing at the maximum volume my OS could give.

really nice and simple game I enjoyed the chaotic vibe! I'm curious how you coded the physics in Godot, I know that kinematic to rigidbody interaction is not ideal in Godot and being able to throw the gun inside the truck and have it move along the truck and bounce is also really impressive! nice work

Thanks for playing everyone! We really appreciate it!

@mushgunax Thanks for the feedback! Having the boxes fall on the accelerator is part of the fun, but I agree that loading the boxes is a bit tedious. We weren't sure how loud to make the audio, so I'm happy to have some feedback on that as well! :)

@0x-void-x0 Thank you! We originally planned to use a KinematicBody for the player, but it didn't work very well, so we ended up making everything a rigidbody (we just locked rotation for the player). Then it was just about messing around with the parameters! :)

Thanks for the rating last moment. I love the sound and art, and the concept is cool.

but i did run in to a few issues, I found extremely hard to get even just a few boxs on the car with out having a box end up on the accelerator. also it was a bit jarring how boxes always tried to be to your right when picking them up.

I think the idea is really cool and a few washs of polish could leave you with some thing great!
