Marvin's Day Job: Sabotage by Devez

[raw]
made by Devez for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

ld-53-cover.png

Marvin was tasked by his boss to deliver a bomb deep into the enemy base. However as he was dropped off, he was told to be careful because the bomb is ... "unstable". Marvin was trying to figure out what that meant, however the more he thought about it, the more he realized he did not want to find out. In his panic, he reached into his back pocket and found the answer. His trusty balloon! With this he could just blow the bomb into the air and deliver it safely without it ever touching anything!

The design of the bomb was perfect, I genuinely felt it taunting me as I endlessly dropped it. I loved the music too. Nice submission!

Very hard to master but it makes it soooo satisfying when you make progress!

My oh my... an acoustic treat! :D This throws me way back too, to Nitrome's "Hot Air" games.
Good work! You really nailed the controls on this!

For its simplicity this game is a lot of fun. The music almost sounds too happy for how often I managed to fuck the mission up when I just started. After a bit of trying you start to get the hang of it. Gameplay gets you sucked in real quick. If theres some feedback I can provide is that I wish there were checkpoints! I having to replay a whole level after nearly completing it is rough. I really like the art and the way the game starts getting a bit more difficult the further you go.

Loved this, really liked the concept and the art style. One thing I (painfully) noticed is there is a bug when advancing levels. If you don't press the button fast enough and the bomb explodes you have to start the current level again!

Kinda wish the theme was more prominent, but the game itself is fun! The physics feel just right, and it's satisfying to nail a level.

Very cool game, I loved it and hated it simultanously. Props to you for tuning the push this well, I think it was perfect to allow a very good control when being careful but risking everything at the first mistake. Great job!

Thank you for all the comments and sorry for that last level if anyone made it all the way! I think I may have done a bit too much playtesting on this :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice little game. I love jams for this type of games, small focused on one mechanic and quite polished .

I'd be lying if I said the constant noise of the balloon didn't bother me after several attempts on a level. But the gameplay was pretty addicting. Just enough challenge to keep me interested but not too much to make me want to quit. Neat game!

This game is amazing and super funny! I love how simple it is, only requiring one button on the mouse. The movement is frustrating (especially with that gravity lol), but at the same time very enjoyable, which makes the game even more special. The sound design is exceptional and deserves its own award :D

The little backstory behind the game is adorable and it warms my heart you included it :)

Amazing gameplay and it was fun. I dropped the ball a million times but that's where the fun is. Love the visuals and the sound

I first wished to have more space or a "safe zone" where the bomb could not explode at the beginning of the first leven to get into the game, but after a few attempts it works out quite well! Nice game!

A unique game for the theme. It is by far the most frustrating LD53 game I have played until now at least. However the graphics was nice and the tune pleasant.

Nice idea, but controls are horrible, I think you should improve it, and also it is import to have a good impact to understand how ballon will be behave if I make some input, it is critical for control type based games. Or may be I am just so bad at this hardcore game :)

Oh, and sound is too loud

But in some meaning it was fun

Loved it! Surprisingly fun little game :)

It felt really good to get better at the mechanic. A suggestion I have is to keep the level length short, so that messing up and dying doesn't feel that bad. Eventually I got almost to the end after what felt like a long time and messed up, and I didn't feel like continuing any more. I might've tried more but actually the controls made my wrist sore. It might be interesting to add some other mechanics that interact with the balloon, like a source of wind in the environment, or moving things that might pop the balloon.

I did find a bug where after the level ended, I accidentally blew on the balloon and it caused me to die and have to restart.

Simple and fun, maybe a teeny bit frustrating at the beginning but it gets better once you get the hang of it. I like the little music and the sound effects are pretty funny. Nice animation on the bomb.

Talk about hard! It took me about 10 minutes to get through level 2, only to find that if I don't hit continue fast enough, I just die anyway and it doesn't count! The animations are great, though, and the sound effects are hilarious. Nice work.

Bonus point for the "one button" effort. This is a great entry overall, sound, visuals and effects too. I really had fun playing it. Well done!
