de-Liver by noskro

[raw]
made by noskro for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

Join our waiter on his daily quest to help his customers de-liver their bodies - and his own.

The task is simple. Take orders and serve them before the customers get angry and leave. But why should the paying customers have all the fun. So beware that every time you get a round of drinks from the tap you will sneak a quick drink for yourself. The later the night the greater the fun. And with fun we mean the overwhelming feeling that you are not in full control of yourself anymore ;)

ScreenshotGameplay1.PNG

The goal of the game is to make the most of a single shift. And that all depends on the amount of tips that you get and the buzz you are having. But keep in mind that the more drinks you have yourself the harder it is so serve your customers.

ScreenshotGameplay3.PNG

Controls: Walk - W/A/S/D, Arrow or a Game Pad Have an extra drink while serving - Space, Jump Button on Game Pad

What to expect: - [x] a crowded bar might be though to navigate. Sometimes you just have to push through a tiny gap - [x] being intoxicated might make walking feel a bit random - it is not. Or is it? :) - [x] customers might get frustrated and leave before you can take their order - their loss we would say - [x] behind the bar counter is a small clock that tells you when your shift ends. If you can still read it

Greetings, fellow liver game people! I like the ambiance added by the chatting, coughing, and clinking glasses. By the end it was nearly impossible to control my character, but it never seemed completely pointless to keep playing. I got a final score of 55632.

Very committed to the theme, in name and gameplay! The ambiance in the game was really incredible. I wish the camera would stay fully zoomed out and the drinks I had gathered orders for were easier to see but the concept is great. Excellent job for wrapping in time to de-liver for the jam!

Thanks for the quick feedback. The ambiance was an important factor to get the bar feeling right. And i can tell you how hard it is to actaully record enough sound bits to make it feel crouded and not sound creepy.
Also @anguium, I agree that a zoomed out camera would make it easier. But that's exactly the reason why we didn't zoom it all all the time ;)

Haha I loved the humourous take on the theme! It was a really interesting and fun entry, the sounds & layout made it surprisingly realistic of a pub - really sold the game. The mechanics are fun, and it's a tricky little game when you've got to manage so many people - but I love it for that exact reason, one of the few games I've played so far this jam that makes me feel challenged!
The drunk mechanics are just hilarious

I likes how it started, the floor tiles can get you dizzy a bit but i managed to push trough that, what i didnt manage to push trough was the fact that the more orders you deliver it seems the more drunk you get so the character becomes harder to control, by the end of it i had no control of the character at all and i couldnt reach the bar to grab the drinks, a fun experience but the severity of the controls hurt the overall experience.

love the audio and how the vision gets distorted as the player gets more drunk, not being able to control my character was funny

Maybe the shift lasted a bit too long, really hard to control at the end  Managed 48k, but struggled a bit trying to understand the movement. Fun experience!

Well done with the drinking effect along the day, nice serving mechanic.
I took a second to read the comments below the game to make sure the characters was drunk and behaving strangely. Then I notice the stars above his head.
Nice one!

Reminds me of getting drunk in Deep Rock Galactic

Yeaa! Destroy all of those livers! The game was really fun, it reminded me of a chill version of overcooked where you get drunk the more you play.

Thank you all! I am really happy about all your comments!
Yes, the controls get really hard at the end, but that was intended. The idea was that the game basically ends when you get too drunk. But since you can (theoretically) serve your guests at any level of drunkness, we needed a timer to really end the game.

Very amusing, some background music would have been nice but the ambient chatter was funny.

Damn funny game about a bartender sipping from the mugs of customers. Demonstrates the negative effects of alcohol on the body xD

I like that you hit on a couple of interpretations of the theme at once: you're de-livering customers while you deliver their drinks. The control changes were interesting; you could still navigate to where you wanted to go even towards the end of the game, but it got pretty difficult to predict *how* you would get there. Surprising amount of realism! Nice audio work, too.

I never thought a bar simulator could be this much fun. The drunken effects are really good. Clicking through all the instructions past the instructions was fun too.

I made 31 dollars and drank 20 drinks before it became unplayable. Not sure if you can sober up but getting drunk was fun. The bar chatter sounds were fun.

Really good game, I enjoyed the audio and the effects of getting drunk were really good. It actually felt nice for the first few minutes of drinking because you were mostly in control of the character but occasionally would drift. The ending of got a little uncontrollable but I think that's what you were going for. Overall a nice experience, maybe a bit more depth in the drink serving would have helped though
