Play peggle, write jokes, get booed!

A recipe for a good joke contains setup, punchline, and, of course, delivery. In our game you'll get the setup, but can you come up with a good punchline and deliver it?

Master bouncy ball, unlock letters, come up with a good punch line and captivate the audience!

Share your best jokes with us in the comments!

The game utilizes GPT-4 API to rate the jokes. Even though we've spent considerable amount of time adjusting the prompts to get appropriate responses, due to the model's nature it's still possible that your good jokes won't be rated highly. So don't get discouraged, you might still have a chance to become a comedian for a live human audience!

Because of the API usage the game requires internet connection for the best experience.

Very creative take on the theme.
Peggle game works without flaw, although after writing my bad punchlines there was always an error when connecting to server. Shame this part of the game didn't work as intended. Curious how is the punchline rated on the server.

Hey, thanks for playing our game! It turns that out games hosted on LD website can't communicate with external servers. If you're still curious give our game a try on itch.io!

Unique and effective. The game works well and requires thought to come up with a punchline!

Same as @obe-dot I like the idea of the game very much, and I wonder too how the punchlines are scored ^^
In any case, well done!

Interesting game! Really liked the twist on the theme, and its impressive that you've managed to implement a joke rating system, i'm super curious to know what tech you used for that! It would be interesting to know more about why the joke was funny or not, with some sort of feedback from why a joke succeeded or failed. Nice entry!

I really like the unique take on deliver and the way peggle coincides with getting letters you cna write jokes with. I just wish there was more of a hint what would score higher.

Note to self... "don't give up your day job to go into comedy". Really creative and unique game! I had a lot of fun playing it.

"What kind of music does a tree listen to? Oakestral" 10/10!

Very fun spin on having to make joke delivery and peggle, though it is really hard to think of good jokes, mostly got 4/10, but still very fun.

Really enjoyed the sounds & feel of the peggle portion. Also curious on how the jokes were scored because some truly terrible ones ranked in the 7-8 range while most others were 2-3 haha.
Level design was also good and kept things fresh, but unfortunately I ended up softlocked at this part:

Really impressive, the idea is insane, can't believe you thought this all up in a weekend, peggle sections were really fun, and the harder levels had me actually thinking about what keys to type. Well done.

Combining peggle and delivering jokes with limited letters is... unique, to say the least. Can't say that it was engaging, but at least fun for a while. Too bad the actual score is obscured by some "server magic": I didn't feel like I was in too much control over the resulting score. On average better jokes were scored better, but most of the time it didn't feel... "fair"? Even if the server logic is better that random scoring.

Moreover, I usually expect the game to make jokes for me, not the other way around: I don't get happy neurons activations when I joke "into the robotic void" :D

The peggle part was pretty fun and worked flawlessly, though, props to the team!

The idea is defiantly interesting, but I am bad at jokes and since there is no feedback on the quality of a joke it got a bit tiresome for me.

I love it! It wasn't too hard to get all the letters in the beginning but it got increasingly harder. On the second try GPT stopped responding sadly. On the up side, I got to see to 0/10 outcome because of the random output generation (because of course my jokes aren't that bad... right?).
Really well executed, it felt polished there was a satisfying scoring build up and finish, and it was fun to play!

An interesting take on the theme, however I was never strong in jokes to really enjoy it  Got as much tomatoes as was possible probably, there should be an anti-rating

peggle part was good and nice take on the theme. i could not figure out the jokes. i think it would have been better to give the player options for puchlines instead of typing it out? thanks for making the game.

if you knew my level in humour you wouldn't make me write jokes with a challenge on top 😅

Excellent concept and really nice execution 👍

Very very unique game and idea, even though I am terrible at finding punchlines, the game still had mercy with me. I enjoyed playing it, keep going :)

Although an AI may not be the best judge at comedy, at least I liked the idea of mashing two wildly different things :)

BTW, for some reason it gave me 75 out of 10 once:

Oh, also you may add a notice about the computer time on the description (I couldn't play it properly before because my PC time was wrong, now on the laptop with the correct time it's working just fine)

PS: Got a score of 54 :-)

Pretty unique and fun entry! The game felt complete and well made. No big criticisms, I had a lot of fun! My final score was 68 (so close!).

Really original idea ! Definitely a high contender on innovation category ! Some small criticisms:
I understand the need to add some gameplay with the minigame but it was kinda frustrating (especially for non native like me) to be bereft of some letters, it was hard enough to try to find a joke in another language ! And also for me the music was really stressful (thanks for putting a shutdown button <3). Overall, had fun playing this and again, very innovative !

it was really fun. I did not have many letters so I wrote "your mom" reply and I was imidietly boomed that I was offensive. very funny entry. very original

The "delivering a punchline" was a unique take on the theme, and the concept of having to come up with a punchline for a given setup was a very interesting idea. Though it did feel like the peggle segments sometimes hamstrung the possibilities too much - perhaps duplicating the most commonly used letters as extra targets could make it easier to avoid ending up being unable to construct meaningful punchlines with the unlocked letters.

The art was good too, the audience reactions were especially funny.

Interesting game!

Always love a game that leverages LLMs. Hope this inspires more people to see what's possible with OpenAI!
