Mech Express by No whOne
Mech Express

Overview
You play as a cat-drone tasked to protect your domicile from rat-tanks that are trying to destroy it. Every once in a while, crates and cat-mechs will drop from the sky, which you can pick up and move around. Crates have different effects, and will explode when their timer runs out. Survive as long as you can, and try to get a high score!
Controls
WASD - Move Space - Grab/Release Mouse hover - Show radius/range of objects
How to Play:
By grabbing and moving around crates, you can position them to either help your cat-mechs, or damage the rat-tanks. Each cat-mech has a water level you have to monitor... If their water level reaches 0, they will attack slower and lose health every attack. Bring cat-mechs close together in order to apply crate effects in a mass. Move bombs away, and into rat-tanks. ∴ Deliver crates of supply to your cat-mechs!

Also, FIRST! Huehue ^~^
I think it may have been too easy once you figure it out xD

it's addictive :D
@peterfiftyfour - Thanks for your feedback! On the direction that the game took... It was never clear from the start :sweat_smile:, so we just winged the gameplay last second and so it might not have been too great... Will take in and consider your words tho!
feedback: Just more levels or some key to know what different boxes do.
Really fun & interesting game!! I like the gameplay that being able to move your towers around in real-time affords. Great job!!
Great job!
I especially liked the green sniper tanks that required me to play differently and do some target prioritisation. It was too hectic for me to understand what the other tanks did, but I didn't need to react. I could just play normally and they would die soon enough. I think it'd be good if it was clear what the different tanks introduced, maybe you could introduce each of them on their own for a while at a reduced difficulty too?
Impressive work! I had a great time.
This definitely has a lot of potential as a "High mobility" Tower Defence/RTS.
Please consider mouse/touch controls for future releases. 👍
Art and music were also well done!
@divi Ayy thanks for playing! Definitely is a bit slow at first, but gets hectic once you have multiple groups to keep track of (I tried this too haha)
@akuirako Aww thanks for the high compliment, I also fell in love with the sprites somewhere along the way! ^~^
@fuse-in-a-bowl I agree with you, the difference isn't very obvious besides the green (they threw me off at first too haha). Difficulty modes sounds exiting honestly, I'd love to have a chance to revisit this game/concept in the future!
@0x-void-x0 Thank you! [NoWhone] did an amazing job with the code on such short notice, (I kept switching up on him midway too). Thank you for playing!
@jp-design Absolutely! This is something I would love to expand upon sometime in the future! xD
@str8griz Aye I'm glad you had fun with it! There definitely are some really fun ideas I wanna try with this moving forward to future jams ^~^
@roalinn Heheh much thanks!!
@bqq Thanks for the insight! The lack of water crates can be pretty brutal, especially in the split-defense strat haha Q-Q
Thank you for your insight!
I like the mechanics, the design the overall look and feel. It's easy to understand and to play. I felt I kind of hacked it, when I simply put all the cats around the house and dropped all reinforcements in the middle. Turns out bombs can land there too :D and green tanks must be in range - nice how it naturally became more challenging! Maybe it was just my end, but at some point the audio crashed continously.
What a fun little game - the strategy of placing the mechs and then also the buffs made for a much deeper strategy experience. The SFX were great, although I will continue to be haunted by the last meow from my Super Kitty Mech 045 (she was my favorite).
Fun, worked well, nice art - what else could I ask for?
This game definitely has legs to be expanded on!
Great work :)
I would love to see this expanded upon!
As others have commented, I'd love to see more done with this. The core loop is fantastic, it just needs a bit more structure to really shine. This would be a fantastic candidate for some post-jam love when you're in the mood. Lots low hanging fruit to play with like structured levels, catmech upgrades, variants, more powerups, etc. Some roguelite mechanics could be fun too. Maybe ape some ideas from Vampire Survivors' progression system.
Nice work! I hope I get to see more some day :smiley_cat:
@aloya Thanks Brodder heheh xD
@alks Haha I agree, NoWhone is really good at them juicy mechanics! I'll keep the sound in mind for the next one!
@hcs-hades IKR! That *MEOW* really shook me to my core- I have 2 cats (Bobo and Leo), and they never make such a gut-wrenching sound like that... R.I.P. little robo-cattos Q-Q
@agudar Much thanks friend! ^~^
@alchemic Wow thank you, I'm happy you liked it! This project was quite endearing, and I definitely plan to expand on some stuff for future projects xD
@ttu-hasan Aye glad you enjoyed it!
@fireslash Yes, yes! I agree- this is one of those projects that would be really fun to expand upon (I personally want a cute little story haha). Thank you for playing!
@enra Thank you! I do plan to mess around with some of the ideas/vibes from this entry, a proper update, however, would depend on [NoWhone], the mastermind behind the overall game design and development =P
@cinterre Thank you! The tower defence + redeployment was quite fun, and I want to try it again sometime!
@alexascher Definitely, this is the greatest takeaway from our entry for LD53, it's a really fun idea to work around!
@alexsolonnikovp4 Much appreciated! When our dev [NoWhone] showed me the gameplay I was quite taken aback (in a good way), it was nothing I've seen before haha! xD Thank you for playing!
I agree with others that the gameplay gets to a point where it's just a bit too fast. The game isn't difficult at all, in fact I walked away for a few minutes and left it running before coming back to write this comment and the game is still alive (with the cats crowded around the house). The low difficulty made it so that when it got too hectic, I felt really demotivated to actually move the cats around since I was at no risk of losing and keeping track of everything felt like it wasn't worth the effort.
There are a lot of features you could add to improve the gameplay, here are some suggestions off the top of my head:
* Bonus zones that spawn in periodically. If you place cats in these zones, they have increased fire rate or infinite ammo or something. This way the player would move the cats more often to take advantage
* Make the green tanks fire a timed missile that does massive damage. This way when a green tank spawns, the player has to prioritize taking them down and redirect their cats as soon as possible.
* Cover system - Put sandbags and stuff in the world that gives cats defensive bonuses
* Flanking system - Give the mechs a damage boost if they shoot a tank from behind. This way the player has to weigh the value of the increased damage against the time lost picking up and moving the cat.
There's a lot you could do to make this game really cool if you guys decide to develop it further
@skleembof I totally agree with you, If NoWhone wants to develop it further I don't mind making some new assets for him to play around with haha xD

It did get a bit easy with how many cat robots I was getting, but definitely a lot of fun moving them around, as well as a pretty unique mechanic.
Great job!
