Little Messenger by ahistyap

[raw]
made by ahistyap for Ludum Dare 53 (JAM)

"Don't get side-tracked, or you'll forget the message!"

Play as Naddhie in this little adventure game, where she is tasked by her mom to deliver a message to her friend. But here's the catch - little Naddhie has a very short attention and memory span! She gets easily distracted by her surroundings, sometimes she even completely forgot about the task she assigned to. Can you help Naddhie deliver the message her mom entrusted to her delivered perfectly?

Control

WASD - Keyboard & Mouse

How to Play

Navigate your way to Mrs. Ara's home, avoiding any NPCs along the way. * Interacting with them will cause you to slowly forget the message you were supposed to deliver. (more options when answering, indicating that Naddhie is not fully remembering the message) gameplay.gif

Cute game! The stepping sound plays a bit too much.
The art style is lovely, thought it was cute you could only cross on the cross walks, gotta be safe!

I played until the end, and some scores, if I find the way not to a challenge it would be cool to limit the scenario visually, and although the game does not contain a menu I would set it to close by pressing "esc" as soon as the game over message appeared.

Really cute artstyle! And I think this concept has potential for something really interesting. Unfortunately talking to people didn't seem to change anything - I could always answer correctly at the end. Unless the idea is that I myself would forget, not the character, so who knows ;)

One thing you might want to fix is the collision. I think you were trying to limit the player to sidewalks (which I think restricts movement too much) but also it just felt really buggy in general.

Great work overall!

Well I like the paper mario style graphics it was perfect for the mood of the game, somme character is black/white, i supposed it's because you were out of time but it's charming.
The animation of the character is not perfect but i know that demand a lot of time and work so it's ambitious for a gamejam game. The dialogs was funny, the text box is really too invasive you can put transparency or make it smaller i think.
At the end i like you need to complete the response, i'm french and that remind me a lot of sofware to learn englis than can be a wonderfull game for kid learning langage ! Beautifull game !

I liked the 2d artstyle mixed with 3d background but I feel there were too many invisible walls restricting my movement.

@tyler-walton Thank you for your kind words! Yeah sorry about the footsteps sounds 😅

@alexsandro Sorry about not giving the options to quit the game 😅

@sam-gorman Thank you so much for your kind words! Well actually, talking with more people will give you more 'options' when giving the message, symbolizing the kid is slowly forgetting the original message. Sorry about the collisions too 😅

@greatcadet Thank you! Gotta credit @another-peco for the cute 2D art

@kgurniak91 Sorry about that, the idea is to only allowing the character to cross the streets on the cross walks

@fragment-games @pralista Thank you!

@ahistyap Oh, that's cool! I played it multiple times but I didn't notice that, somehow. It might be cool if you made the message something difficult to remember, or a puzzle of some kind.

Really clever idea for a game! Remembering the message was pretty easy, but it was still fun trying to avoid getting distracted. The art style is very cute and I love the flat characters in a 3d world style. It's a little odd how the side characters are black and white while the main characters are full colour, but it at least made it easy to figure out who to avoid.

Nice little game. Like many other, I like the papercut style (and use it in a previous game). It would be great if dialogues was not automatic, but use a button to go next. I understand the point of the memory quiz, but I found it too easy.
Overall that was cute, and short enough to not loose attention. Well done.

I love the art style. The mix of 2D and 3D is beautiful. I have played through the game several times. Is it possible to go to the mother's friend without talking to anyone else?
Unfortunately all the same looking people have the same dialog. No, I don't want to buy a Javascript book :grinning:

Cute game, graphics are really great. I feel it's impossible not to get distracted at all, but the message isn't forgotten at the first distraction we encounter so it's ok. If you plan add levels to the game, maybe you could indicate how many distractions you can encounter before forgetting part of the message. Anyway, great job on this game :)

I love the art style. I was not a huge fan of being forced to follow road crossing safety rules. I feel like that could have been communicated better as I thought the game was broken.

A really sweet game!! I love the artstyle (and was that a rickroll reference near the end???)

A stylish game. The paper style itself is cool, I think. And about game... Well, the animations are strangely twitching sometimes, which was a little annoying (like the shadow)... It's cool that you can only walk on a pedestrian crossing, although ideally you should not limit the player, but simply punish him for wrong actions, but if you take into time frame gamejam - cool. A very nice game turned out).

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback:grin:

@robowarrior1982 Thank you! Yeah you're right sorry about that, we were running out of time and had to settle with black and white. And thank you for sharing your thoughts about the animations and text box!

@sam-gorman Hey thank you for playing it again!😁 We still don't have any plan on continuing updating it, but if we do we'll make sure to add what you suggested!

@veralos Thank you!

@frelude Thank you! Sorry about the unable to skip dialogues😅

@mpk90 Thanks for playing it several times! I don't think that's possible, but I'm not sure either😁. Haha that's why he's desperate selling it to Naddhie!

@kami-amiga Thank you! Yeah maybe if we do plan to continue it, we definitely will add more distractions.

@nastasya Thanks!

@drazil100 Thanks! Sorry about that, you're right maybe this information should be communicated better, through instructions or tutorial

@bluepir Thanks! Haha someone's finally noticed it!:joy:

@paulsams Thank you! Oh yeah that animation, I only noticed it after playing it several times too😅

@gamescodedogs Thanks! We do have a plan on working on it, but not in the near future😅

I saw the cover for Little Messenger, downloaded it immediately. What a cute entry! There's a really good sense of style and the character designs are adorable. I like the 2D characters in a 3D world aesthetic, it's pulled off very well here! :smile:
