Pallet Panic by Henrik Ganard

[raw]
made by Henrik Ganard for Ludum Dare 54 (COMPO)

You are a forklift operator with the goal of keeping the factory going. One working day is between 7am to 4pm and after you can see on your reportcard on how well you did manage to fulfill your goals.

LD-integrated version does not start for me, try external version if you have the same problem.

Instructions

guide.png

  • Drive the forklift with WASD or arrowkeys, lift up and put down pallets with Space or E.
  • Put green, yellow, red and blue pallets in their respective machine (maximum 5 at a time)
  • Take purple pallets from the purple machine to the top trailer
  • Unload bottom trailer before timer runs out

Good interpreration of limited space. It took me a while to figure out that the trucks had cargo, and that the E key let me pull stuff, but once I figured that out I had a good time moving the boxes around. A small amount of feedback (even an audio sound) on the E key to let me know I had picked up or put down a palette would have helped me learn the mechanics better.

Love the art style!

Thanks. Yes, E or Space "picks up" the pallets and a sound or visual signal should have been nice. I was planning on making a better onboarding but ran out of time. Thanks for playing it.

First time I've played a game where I'm a forklift driver. Wow that was tricky to get the hang of, but once you do the game really becomes something entirely different. Given that, I'll have to say that the game is pretty well balanced. Well done!

Very nice, I like the idea and overall look/game screen layout. 'Controls worked smoothly, but it took me a bit to figure out that there is no indicator whether the forks are up or down. Nice variety of jobs!

Snyggt! Nice driving. I imagine the truck drivers wouldn't like me driving in their truck full speed slamming into the pallets. Always nice with adjustable audio.

I think that is the recommended breaking method @pe7e 😄

The driving felt a bit to floaty but overall I really liked the game. Had fun playing it!

Oof, that timer is pretty tough... I only managed to complete about half of each task before the end of the day, but that still felt like an accomplishment. For some reason, the purple delivery truck never came back after leaving with 5 items, so I didn't have the chance to complete the purple task (not that I would've had time to, anyway).

By the way do the red/green lights on the processing areas mean anything or are they just there to cause anxiety?

The timer for the purple truck is too long and yes, the "lights" does have a meening even if it is unclear. The green lights on the machines tells you how many pallets are in the system. The first version gave the player a penalty if a machine got empty but I removed that feature after a bit. The Red lights on the purple machine works in the same way but in reverse, the machine produces pallets and stores them in a magasin that holds five pallet splus one on the machine. The purple machine takes pallets from all the other machines and makes pruple palet but when the game starts the purple machine has ten of each other pallet to make purple from, just so that I did not have to explain the more komplex system and also so that you did not need to wait on all the other machines in the short timeframe the game is played. Thanks for playing and comment @mao

Haha. This is why I'm not a forklift operator. Didn't quite make it. But had a good time, and definitely got better over the 16 minutes.

Fun games, I like the speed of the fork lift. My biggest complaint about the controls is turning direction during reverse. When I hit back & left the fork lift rotates counter-clockwise sending my back-side to the right. This seems reversed to me and made switch back and forth (forward/reverse) very difficult. I think it might also be good to give a visual indicator that a truck is ready to unload. I had nothing left to do before I figured out there was something in the truck, and then I only had time to get a single package off.

liked it, those I had a few times where I had no trucks and just had to wait. nice job!

Very polished and well put together. Makes me feel like I am doing an actual job, though I am not quite sure I like that mood xD

Presentation is great, and controls feel right for a chunky forklift.

The fact a single run takes so long is a bit of a bummer, especially with this difficulty. Would have appreciated lower task numbers and lower timer. I managed to get yellow palletes task done only on the 2nd try, and while I was trying to get purples sorted, the truck just left me with a few and didn't manage to come back until the shift was over :p

Is it even theoretically possible to finish all the tasks in one run? I assume not since it's quite a tight shift.

It's settled... I would not make a good forklift driver
I did my best but I sure felt some Pallet Panic as the time got close to 16!

I appreciate the attention to detail in the game, like the different lines the truck driver says when you take too long.

I feel like the primary mechanic is fun, however I was lacking challenge. It was also not clear to me why the non-purple truck left - While it was gone, I had nothing to do

Nice game ! I really like the way you can drive the forklift, seems realistic and forgiving with colisions, I like the placement of the purple package so you can take one every trip to the truck back, i would have loved a mechanic where you have to be careful about some type of package to avoid breaking them if you hit walls, nice game nonetheless !

Really neat work, very polished! It was quite challenging at times for me, took me time to get hang of it. I do have a gripe about the break "drift" etc sound, which is rather loud compared to anything else there, but perhaps its just me. I enjoyed my forklift experience a lot. Jolly good entry!

Absolutely brilliant. Some said that when the purple truck leaves there is nothing to do, but yes, you can pick up the purple boxes and leave them near the truck so that when it arrives the work will be faster. It just took me a while to figure out that the second truck is for me to pick up the boxes inside. Purple is the opposite. This was not so intuitive, but in a later version you can indicate this more clearly. I had a lot of fun, the graphic is simple and functional, beat sounds with sound variations, that's good. I think there was a song missing, I didn't notice if it was there, it's not missing here, but it would help to have a higher score in the audio. The idea is perfect for the theme, little space to really work. I think you should really continue this, the possibilities are endless. There may be people walking, you can't run over people. Lines of trucks forming because you're taking your time. Your boss is on the phone yelling at you because you're so incompetent. It would be a huge tension lol. I hope you continue. Hitting the wall could also ruin your forklift, not to mention damage the load. The company could be fined.... I'm traveling here lol. I really liked.

Even tho I hate the idea or working even in games (real life work is already piling up :P), this is a nice little game with it's own unique challenges! Controls could've been better or maybe a FPV could resolve those issues, but that would require to convert it to 3D. Anyways, great job!

Nicely done, seems quite well polished and gameplay is working well. Graphics and sounds also fit together well. There could be a bit more difficulty or challenge eg. by having health on the forklift and/or pallets since right now you can just ram all over the place.

Art is nice and clean, sound is good. Controls confused me a bit, I'm used to different vehicle controls. The timing of the trucks could have used a bit of balance, but it's hard to do that in a limited time. Over all it's decently fun. Good job.

Really nice game, I felt encouraged to drive the forklift just as recklessly as I have seen real workers doing. :D One detail I really liked was the use of "pyjamaspapper" (the english translation of which I don't think will be necessary for me to look up :P) for the UI, it adds a lot to the visual experience to have UI that fits with the setting, especially when it's constantly on the screen. Great work! :D
