Need for Space by Coro_yy

What is Need for Space?

Do you like cars? Do you enjoy narrow passages? Does falling off a cliff make you angry? Oh boy, do we have something for you! In Need for Space, you get to drive on 8 different levels and try to make it to the finish line. With every level it gets a bit more difficult. All of them have been tested and are 100% doable, but the last one might need some patience (which is what we aimed for).

Yeah, it's definitely hard

Clever use of the theme nonetheless.

The models/art were really impressive for a game jam game. And the jumps and turns were really quite fun! Only thing Id recommend is maybe making it a bit easier. I think you could still have a good challenge but make it a bit more enjoyable if there was a bit more room for error with the turns

The controls seem a little bit clumsy for me..
But i really do like the graphics :) and nice theme-representation

@wbertrand you're not wrong. I think the issue was, that we managed to finish the levels quite easily at the end (or at least one of us  ) and our playtesting with friends only started close to the deadline. There we saw how many issues they were having, especially with the planks. But it's not impossible! And I always aim to make it a bit harder and make ppl suffer :]

@teme @nonigirl thx! Yeah, at least we got the theme right :D

I really like the core concept here, I think it's a great idea! Visuals are quite nice too. I feel like it would have looked nicer if you had slapped a skybox texture in, just like some cartoony looking clouds or something to make it feel a bit more cohesive. I couldn't finish the game unfortunately, and I think it just boils down to the fact that the cars physics are a little weird and unpredictable. I've only ever played around with vehicle physics in Unity before, and they were very difficult to get feeling good there, so I don't know what it's like for Unreal. The main issue I had was that as soon as one of my wheels went over an edge, for example one wheel leaves the edge of a flat tile, the car was basically stuck and couldn't be recovered in any way. I believe the game would be a lot more enjoyable if that one little thing was fixed. I say little, but I don't know how hard it would be to fix that!

Good game though, you folks have done a good job :)

@tommo120 that actually got fixed, but outside of the deadline. But if you want to try it again, just look for it on itch.io. There's a "Need for Space (updated)" that should feel a bit nicer :)

I liked the game. It looked good, the title was funny, the driving was nice with real physics. Overall great work.

It has idea that is quite good, however I don't think physics are good enough to really make enjoyable experience. I'm pretty sure car's pivot point, point where it rotates ain't correct. Meaning when you turn, it does not rotate where you expect and this makes it feel clunky and pushes you easily over the edge. For average car this point should be in center of wheelbase, not at the front axle

Great idea but it's really hard, perhaps review the difficulty, but gg guys !

Cool game! The assets are good but the background being the **VOID** makes it look really bad. Keep up the good work!

The physics are a bit too wonky and the game gets hard very quick. The idea is good but the game need some improvements.

I just played the game, got to around 5-6 levels completed then got stumped haha. This was a pretty cool idea, you just had to turn very early and had no room for error. That too, I haven't seen an unreal engine jame game yet, this was the first. I used to work with unreal engine a lot before godot, huge respect for being able to get this done in the timeframe. Also nice reference to Need for Speed haha.

This was very addicting, I played for more than an hour and got to the level after the one where you have to jump over the same empty space twice. Those wooden boards are a pain haha. It really tests your patience. Definitely hit the theme on this one.

Fits the theme perfectly. With graphics improvements, and an irritating, uplifting, corny background tune, can definitely see this being a successful rage game on steam. Nice job!

I like the idea, and I had fun trying the game. Some more sound effects and perhaps some music would have been great. But overall a fun little jam game. Well done.

I think the concept here is great, pretty creative use of the theme

Unfortunately like others before me said, the game is just a bit too difficult for me and Ihave some problems with the physics. it would make turns much more easy if there was more room fir error.

the graphics are fine, but a skybox and some bg elemets would be welcome. some music would help a bit too

the idea is pretty fun, it could be a great little game with some polish and easier difficulty!
