Bee Catcher by Jeremy Klassen
This was a solo project with the goal of learning new and open source tools. Art was made with inkscape, and the project was built with Godot.
The goal was to build a less violent version of a topdown shooter while also incorporating unique mechanics and the theme of "Limited Space."

143 bees were eaten. Very nice.
Good little game. Getting pulled around when catching bees adds a lot of challenge to the gameplay. The WASD movement feels too weak/not very responsive which makes it hard to move away from edges after getting pulled. Also the pulling seems inconsistent like you get pulled harder toward one direction than the other, probably has something to do with the initial velocity while holding the WASD keys. Other than that the art is nice, and good job on successfully submitting to compo while learning and using new tools that is definitely not an easy task! Well done!
Patience being frequently rewarded by getting 2 or 3 at once was really neat. I only used the little shove from the tongue to move (because I didn't try the keys), so they kind of spawned in lanes behind each other.
Good job!
The embed on here gives me a 404, says it didn't find the index.html (it has to be in the zip root directly, not a subfolder). The one on itchio worked though.
And @Zirrus yes, they actually were originally flies. But when I thought about it... flies don't kill things like chameleons, so I needed a similar looking creature that had the theoretical ability to defeat the chameleon if touched. Also yes, that wasn't a build, it was the gamefiles. I thought that was the upload where I was supposed to submit my code for compo proof. I was wrong.
the movement is pretty challenging, i wish it felt more consistent
my best score was 67
The game was fun !
I see that you used the Ludum Dare to learn how to use Godot, I did the same
And ya, Godot was an interesting experience. Interacting with nodes feel similar to interacting with React components.
Have fun with your new tools (and welcome to Godot) :]
I got to almost 200 bees.
