Drift Store by Jonas Michael

Welcome to Drift Store, our entry to this iteration of Ludum Dare. We've had the idea of a shopping game in the back of our minds for quite some time, but this competitions theme just felt right to give it a shot.
Game Idea
Your goal is to progress through the days (levels) of the game by completing shopping lists given a set time limit. What makes the game challenging is the combination of controlling the ever-uncontrollable shopping cart, locating the items in the large store and finally arranging the items in an ideal way within the carts limited space - otherwise you'll need to empty the cart at the checkout before entering the store once more to retrieve the remaining items. Memorizing the layout of the store certainly helps with progression, as it will spare you having to check the map (during which you cannot move). How many days can you last?

Controls
- W - accelerate
- S - decelerate (accelerate backwards)
- A,D - turn cart left / right
- Q,E - turn items left / right
- M - open map
- click at shelves to open, click somewhere else to close the shelves
Credits
The Code, music, sound and all graphics apart from the icons were created by us originally. We had an AI help us with the icons, because it simply wouldn't have been remotely possible to create over 500 icons by a single graphics designer in 72 hours (plus the other graphical content).
Unfortunately we did not manage to include our prepared sounds and music to the game due to time restraints. We still hope you enjoy our game! Please post your highest day in the comments!

And you did quite convincingly convey the tediousness of everyday shopping :D
You can improve on design with more clear information of were the products are (minimaps) and increased difficulty with some areas banned during the first days
Good job !
and i encounter a nullreference exception when i picked up the squeaky dog toy and could place any more item in the trolley.
Welp, items in my cart fell into `/dev/null` and I can't pick them up anymore...
In general, I feel that this is a perfectly accurate recreation of going to shop for groceries, which ends up being... just as fun.
The concept might've been much more effective if there were just few items, so that the player could actually memorize their location and slowly improve their times, instead of relying on the minimap all the time...
The item fitting minigame is great, and it's interesting that every item has a different shape, but ends up being mechanically irrelevant due to the slow pace of the game...
