Mosh Pint by Dan Miller

[raw]
made by Dan Miller for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

You're at the concert and you've grabbed a beer for your date. Now you need to find your way back through the crowd. Don't spill or the date is OVER!

These people are ready to mosh, is there enough space to make it through?

I loved the retro feel of this game. Hearing the music get louder was a nice indicator on where to go.

Super fun game! Overall theme and mood is so good. Gameplay itself felt very polished, for me it was a great level of difficulty. I loved how the guitar had the filter EQ change as you got closer to the stage. Very clever :)

I made a concert/music/metal game too so it was fun to see this one!

Cheers!!

This is a great game concept. Has good player feedback to figure it out and really hits the vibe that its trying to get across. Like this one a lot!

Fun concept, was kinda hard to tell the angrier guys apart from the more normal though, kinda see this as something people may attempt to speedrun.

Decent theme adaptation, played it through, but didn't use dash much, as if it wasn't necesserarily for gameplay, just your regular control key you got used to. Nothing straight bad nonetheless, keep it up!

What a fun idea!

Great use of the theme. Using the music to indicate the payer getting closer is a really nice touch!

There are some nice gameplay ideas, for example the level where you have to rush before the wall of death happens is cool!

I would say that your graphical assets lack cohesiveness: the scale of the pixels for your characters is not the same as the one for your barriers. Otherwise, nice use of lights! :)

The level of polish on this is great. For one of the levels I just sat there for a good minute letting the track play out. Great job!

I love how the game looks fully finished and the pun gives it +5 at least XD. The idea is brilliant loving it.

Awesome game in every aspect! Starting from the name) The conception is really innovative, there is nice humor of the whole situation, the game is fun to play. And the guitar is awesome) Art is really nice as well, it's style compliments the gameplay, the only thing is UI maybe a little bit out of the whole style, but it's really not important cause the game looks and feels wholesome. And it really, really gives the feeling of trying to save your beer on some punk or rock concert)

I have spilled so much beer on so many people, but I'm pretty sure they didn't notice. Awesome game!

the theme and the feel to dodge people is so cool and feels addicting. I love the music and the coloring of the people in the mosh.

Amazing execution on theme! I love this concept. Unfortunately, I got stuck on level 3 - seemed like there was some invisible force on either side of the crowd pushing me into the moshers relentlessly. It was otherwise really fun to balance quick movement and stabilization while avoid as many people as possible. I'd love to see this concept expanded to include other food and drinks to other types of showgoers, or maybe even at different entertainment venues. Great job!

Looks like a very polished game. I love the pixelart and colours you used. Feels like I'm attending a real concert of some kind.

It seemed a little unclear what bracing did, but otherwise a nicely polished game! It seemed a little odd that the arrow pointing you where to go would seemly show up after a random amount of time. Looking at the other comments here apparently the music would get louder the closer you get, which is a really nice way to do it, just a detail that I missed.

The graphics end up creating a really nice, cohesive look even with a lot of the elements being pretty simple. It's fun and fits the theme well, nicely done.

Also, @cardboardmoon there is indeed a force on level 3 pushing everything into the middle eventually, but the moshers start off to the sides with only you and your date on the center line. Once you figure out the strategy it is a pretty easy level.

Brace to the end, slow and steady wins the race...and there will be beer to drink after! Really sick interpretation of the theme! As a metalhead myself, I appreciate the live-show energy in your game! Something every concert-goer has to deal with. The audio fading in as the player gets closer to the goal is pretty rad. The crowd AI worked pretty well and there was some solid intent on the level designs. Great job! Up the irons!

This game sounds so good! You nailed the concert atmosphere. I like the use of the theme very much, it's very relatable

My only real gripe with the game is that the physics feel too unforgiving and a bit buggy. One time I got stuck in the barrier for a couple of seconds, unable to move. Also I regularly hit the corners of everything. I can't really put my finger on the exact issue, maybe the collision shapes were too large or too boxy? All I know is that it didn't feel quite right and frustrated me a bit.

Also the "brace" move is maybe a little bit overpowered - although it got me through the game

I love the effect of slowly making the music clearer as you approach the stage - and the music itself :metal:

Also, I played with a gamepad and I wish the menu items were also controllable with it so I didn't have to reach for the mouse.

Other than that, great job!

Cool game! Great take on theme! Indication of level progress by sound is very inventive. Good controls, graphics and sound effects.
