I loved this! Combat was fun, enemies were cool and I loved the cheese and bacon

A knight of Ratlantis escaping rat prison is a funny setting for a game! I do have some constructive criticism:

I thought the game was too easy. It seems like every room you're getting tons of cheese and bacon so it's practically impossible to die. The slimes were pretty nonthreatening; An ability like charging up a dash toward you would help make them more dynamic.

Also, it seemed like there were different types of birds that shot at different speeds. Maybe I was missing something and that wasn't the case, but if it was, the player would benefit from a visual indicator denoting the type of bird they're fighting against.

Keep at it!

nice but I don't see a good relationship with the theme. However I would eliminate the power of the larger poison bubble, it simplifies the game too much.

Fun and full of atmosphere.

I really enjoyed the art style of it. The cutscenes were specially well done, I enjoyed those a lot! Game-play was a bit simple as previously mentioned by Duckwings, but I think it's fine to have casual fun at times, though there's a lot of things that could be added if you guys continue with the project.

The one thing that bothered me was that the sound levels were a bit off at times and specially the menu music was a bit too loud at start and the the first seconds didn't seem to fit, but perhaps it's just me and my music taste.

Overall really jolly good work on it!

Thank you all for your feedback!

@duckwings You are right, the game is not super challenging. In our playtests, we had some deaths and we wanted use a difficulty setting where most players would see the ending without being frustrated.

@dhavavamba We were inspired by the theme while coming up with the base idea that was linked to the story and setting of the game. So, the theme is more integrated in the game's story than in the mechanics but it really helped us to come up with the game idea. Finally, we created the game mechanics based on these ideas.

Good effort! I like the little story at the start. Good work on level and enemy design. My main complain is that the sword attacks lack punch: the swing animation should be way more expressive and over the top. Visuals are okay. The change in music tone was a nice little touch.

Really love the aesthetic and the fun little touches. Like when you pick up the book it shows the main character's hand holding it.

The swinging felt like it could be a little heftier. Maybe if clicking did a bigger swing? Would have loved to have seen more sound effects too!

Great music and a solid amount of progression for a game jam. :) Cheers!

Nice job! I particularly liked the art and sound design :) I particularly enjoyed discovering I could hit things into the spikes to deal massive damage.

I think the difficulty level is pretty reasonable for a jam game- I agree you don't want people getting frustrated.

I'm assuming there were time constraints preventing this, but it would be really cool to have a boss fight to end the game!

@matt-barnfield You are right, we had planned a boss fight on the roof of the church right from the start of our planning phase but that was impossible in three days to implement 😄

Now that is a funny game! Really liked it and combat was fun (except multiple birds at once, hate them). I guess my only criticism is in checkpoint placement (having to go through a long level again when you die at the very end - not fun) and the art is a bit inconsistent (different artstyles mixed together, each on their own looks good, but it's a bit jarring seeing that mix).

And that poem... 10/10

Nice ! First game I could finish this jam ! Maybe a little too easy.

The music is catchy !

Great combat system, enemies and environment design (the statues :ok_hand:)

I had a lot of fun playing your game, I don't know why but the idea of a mouse eating bacon makes me laugh haha! I loved the scenery and the retro music is a very nice touch too.

I had a bit of trouble with the space-dash attack, where space didn't work all the time, but maybe that's because I played the web version (I know there's sometime problem with space control with web browsers)? I couldn't get past the three birds because of this ... (or because of my skills perhaps oops)

I speedrun the game a bit, but I was pleased by how smoothly it flows, also in the embedded web version. I encountered no bugs, the balancing was nice, the controls clear (I would just recommend inreasing the font).
Had lot of fun playing the game and loved the mood! I appreciated the narrative into the diaries that just fit into the context. Pretty cute graphics and sound too (I love comics-style storyboards).
Good job guys :D

The artwork is great. This shows what can be accomplished with a talented team working on a jam. I enjoyed the game a lot. Was there a save feature? If yes, then I missed it, but if not that would be helpful. It's a pretty extensive game for a jam.

@johnsensei Thank you! There is no "real" save feature but there are checkpoints. Unless you don't quit the game, your progress will temporarily be saved at the beginning of each floor.

Great game, congrats! The difficulty increases progressively and the fights are pretty fun.

It's pretty good. It has good polish in all areas.

I would add a stamina bar to not spam the sword's basic attack and make it not so easy to kill

The game was nicely done. I especially liked the story and comics. The game had a feeling of progress when you gradually got different skills.

Surprisingly fun combat thanks to a really clever enemy design. The different combinations of foes and level design made all encounters unique and gradually more challenging. You even managed to squeeze in some narrative elements, it's a pretty solid entry on all fronts, congrats!

Nice short dungeon crawler game! I don't feel the theme much or maybe it's because dungeon crawlers normally have limited space.
Regardless, the dungeon design is good, challenge is presented and there are spells to unlock.
Oh I did complete this game.

@bloodbane Thank you! 😊 The theme has influenced many parts of the game like the story, setting and more but it is not that obvious in the game mechanics. But great to see that you liked the game nonetheless!

I made it through :D
I didn't understand the difference between the two poison spells, but otherwise it was very clear and understandable.
bastilo
13. Oct 2023 · 15:18 UTC
@rongo-matane The first poison spell just poisons the enemys. The second spell adds an explosion to that when the spell hits the ground. So it makes more damage to the enemys when it hits the ground.
