@bisnesspirate Thanks! I definitely agree the movement and collisions are one of the rougher parts of the game, definitely didn't have the time to polish it. I'm glad you enjoyed it besides that though!
@manabreak Thanks! I definitely wish I had the time to make the enemies a bit more distinct/interesting and add in some other ideas to reduce the overall repetitiveness, I'm glad you enjoyed it though :)
This is super cute. I liked the sounds. I wished the bullets were a bit slower and I wanted 8 directions. I also wish the first button didn't restart it so I could revel in being a zombie myself for a spell. Nicely done!!
it's pretty solid.
- Maybe next time give some instructions how to launch the jar. There are lots of people here who are smart enough to figure it out, but you can make the barier to play even smaller with a little explaination :-)
- I thought the open door in the building was for some kind of shop or something. Usually in games an open door means an entry to something
- The stones are a cool addition. You could make it, so that bullets don't travel though them. Therefor making the stones not only obstacles, but also shielding
- The movement felt a bit off. I don't know why. Maybe because the shooting direction is the same as your last moving direction. I don't know how that could be changed, but it felt a bit off
- I like the overall design language of the game. The graphics fit together. Same deal with the music and sound design. In that department this game feels very polished.

I was able to finish it on the second playthrough! The only thing that was a little bit clunky was the shooting and the movement! For some reason when shooting enemies vertically it was not working as expected. Anyway, the graphics, the music and the sound effects were nice! The implementation of the theme is the fact that you do not have any extra space to go (am I right?).
Anyway, nice entrance and good job! Keep up!
@treblecolby I definitely think both of those would be really neat additions!
@jason-shapiro Haha thanks :) I definitely wish I had time to implement 8-directional (or possibly even omnidirectional movement) I guess I felt the 4-directional movement grid lended itself more into the retro-style feel but it does feel arbitrarily limiting.
@nick-rafalski I can agree with that, honestly the shooting zombies were added fairly last minute so I didn't have a whole lot of time to implement it and agree that it can be unfair at times.
@its-capp Yeah the theme sorta took a backseat, I had some other ideas to make the gameplay loop more exciting or to further connect to the theme (my original idea was that dead zombies would stay on the map to further limit the playable space as the game went on) but either had problems pulling them off or ran into time constraints.
@unfinished632 Thanks!
@wouter52 All completely fair critiques, I made the one building have an open door just to add a bit of variation but I can see how it'd be confusing. I also definitely agree the movement feels a bit clunky and definitely wish I had more time to polish it up.
@deadbydeath Yeah the implementation of the theme is definitely that you're in a really tiny town. There's also the whole Old West movie trope of "this town ain't big enough for the both of us" which is what led me to do a wild west theme but it doesn't really come across in the gameplay. I'm glad you enjoyed playing it!
The song gets a bit repetitive quick, so that could be an improvement.
The waves start getting pretty fast paces soon, although a particular zombie was always just chillin' on the other side of the building and I had to go get it lol
The shooting zombies are a nice twist, and they make the game hard 😅
A nice addition could be having a shop building and entering to upgrade your gear.
Really cute game, keep working on it!
