Cramped - 3D Maze Escape by Onsson

[raw]
made by Onsson for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

The cleaning of the ventilation are done for this small robot vacuum. Help the little thing to get out of the building through the maze of ventilation systems. Get to the exit.

Controls:

A, D = Move Left/Right

W, S = Move Up/Down

Q, E or Arrows = Rotate Left or Right

Escape = Pause

When you you're inside the maze you only see the plane that you're on and the ones behind. A kind of x-ray vision or a "sliced bread view" if you will.

Only one level, but pretty hard. You often end up in "brain lock" trying to keep tabs on where you are and where you're supposed to go.

If you really get stuck, you can activate breadcrumbs in the pause menu to get back on track somewhat.

Enjoy!

My brain hurts from spinning around, haha. Couldn't make it past level 1. Well done though, cool idea!

Like it's describe only one level and quite difficult for the first time. The concept it's quite cool (like Fez/Paper Mario). Good job

Fun game! I really enjoyed the unique rendering, culling the areas in front of me so I can see where I am. It took my brain a second to understand what was going on, but once I did, it was a good brain-blast moment.

Very interesting concept once you understand and get your head around!

Couldn't make much progress, but it was pretty unique, creative and well made!

Very cool, very interesting, very hard. I think after a game jam, definitely not the best game to be playing. So much using my head to remember where the heck i was.

This is super cool conceptually but WOW is it hard haha. I couldn't make it past level 1 I really like what you made. Great submission!

Absolute mind-bender. An interesting combination of finding myself relying on guesswork but then quickly realising brute-forcing wasn't really working out

I have to confess I did not find the exit, kept getting lost. This seems very intended in the case of this game. Everything works, you were not kidding about it being a hard maze though! Nice take on the theme, I really felt "limited" in "space" with this kind of maze game!

Insane. Couldn't do it, especially after 3 days of thinking. I loved the concept though and level design.

The Player character is absolutely ADORABLE. Which is why I am incredibly sorry that I made him stuck in a big cube in (presumably) space. As someone with very little orientation it was quite hard to grasp the new space, but I would say it was an interesting challenge to figure out and a fun puzzle to play with.
One thing to improve, the spinning motion (especially when spinning fast) kind of made my head spin.
But I had fun, thanks :)

I like the idea, it really reminds me of Fez. But I definitely got lost even just in the first level. I believe using different colors in the level would have really helped in gluing everything together and letting the player feel less lost when turning the world around.
The vacuum bot is going to become my new favorite character now!

An interesting concept, like others have said it's very hard mainly because of the perspective. If there is a path on the side that is invisible, you won't know it's there and will just walk right past it. Maybe there is something you could do, like highlight the opposing wall or something to let players know they can turn there.

On of my favorite games so far. A really nice submission, the puzzle is a bit complicated but still doable and the concept is very good ! Well done ! :)

Well done, you have managed to make 3d space incomprehensible :)
