Witch Contractor 2 by alpacalypse

[raw]
made by alpacalypse for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Best played in full screen (you'll see why).

You are a Witch Contractor. The client has requested you clear the Abyss of Limitful Space. You may die, as time, a monster, or space, catches up with you, but you may also secure riches untold (according to the contract anyway; you skipped the fine print).

Unfortunately, due to calamities, we were unable to bring this game up to our desired standards of polish and completion. Nevertheless, we offer it up to you.

Playing, scoring and procedural generation of levels are included.

We have exempted from the music category as we were obliged to reuse effects and music from the original Witch Contractor.

  • WASD/arrows to move.
  • Mouse to aim.
  • Left mouse to shoot (hold).
  • Kill enemies to increase score
  • Collect power ups and coins to increase score
  • Reach the magic circle to complete each level and advance
  • Tiles you leave will collapse behind you, leaving void
  • Entering the void will kill you after a short time, but not before then
  • If you choose an unwise path you may cut yourself off from the magic circle with void and become doomed

this game was pretty wierd, when i got to a final piece the only thing left to do was to die. no mobs spawned on that room, nothing.

I like the concept, but for some reason the player character would dissapear and the level would freeze multiple times.
I will rate it for now, but @ me when you think you fixed some of your bugs and I will give it another go :)

Glad to see you guys are still staying true to your witch games!

The game itself worked fine for me, but it did take me a while to notice that advancing to the next level without killing enemies/collecting stuff doesn't increase the score.

Really wish those coins had a different design, they were kind of hard to notice.

Solid concept, though the gameplay definitely took some getting used to since it was so fast paced. It was a bit hard to figure out what to do at first, but once I understood the goal of getting to the circle I was able to find the fun of charting a path at the beginning of each level and picking up things along the way. The enemies and pickups didn't feel super impactful since you could just sprint to the exit and survive, and survival seemed like the biggest priority since it was so easy to make a mistake and die since the void showed up so quickly. My high score was around 22000. The core concept of "you get a few seconds to see the whole level and plan out your route" is quite cool, would be fun to see that expanded on maybe with some slower paced gameplay. Good work!

Nice game! Great interpretation of the theme. Agreed with some others that the pickups didn't feel super impactful, but that's just a balance thing that you'd be able to solve with more time. I liked the vibe!

Fun game! It was rather simple and really just came down to a timed maze. Other than just trying to get more points the player never really has to shoot anything or collect anything. Perhaps the levels could also require things to keep it a bit more different each time? Like collect three blah blahs, then the player has to look at the map at the beginning, not only for the circle, but also for these different items each level? Anyway, good job!

cute game, fun twist that the "squares" begin to disappear when you step onto them

I didn't understand this game. The camera's view is very distant, the items are distant due to the distant camera and I don't really know what they are, the music is quite repetitive and quickly starts to get annoying. The screen goes black and I'm not sure what to do..

Feels like a classic SNES game, the slimes are cute too. Maybe more enemies could add some spice too it, but overall a good start to a run and gun game

I liked the concept of the idea and the fast paced nature due to the timer. I wish there was a bigger challenge (maybe from the enemies) and a clear goal. I also liked how the tiles were randomly placed for each level.

I didn't really feel like I had much time to shoot enemies before the tiles collapsed around me. Overall, I was somewhat confused. Figuring out how to collect all the treasure while navigating the collapsing tiles was pretty fun though.

The gameplay was very fast paced and fun and I loved the soundtrack! I feel like requiring the player to kill all enemies before proceeding and lowering the black tile rate a tad could make it feel a little more engaging. Overall great job was a lot of fun!

If more time was given, I can definitely see the potential in this game. Loved the game concept, level design and how the camera zooms to the player at the beginning. There are few bugs like when there are more enemies & chases the player there is a lag. But its a time limited jam and I can see that. Good job on finishing the game. my highest score was 9449 :high_brightness:

Oh wow! I remember playing the first Witch Contractor! Very cool to see a sequel.

I really like the tile collapsing mechanic. Having the camera show the whole level before zooming in is a really cool idea. I enjoyed planning out my route to the magic circle.

I got third! Mostly because I stopped bothering to shoot enemies and just flew right through them (until eventually this tactic failed and i died). I think I never got a score multiplier though, that was always at zero.
