Heaven's gates are overflowing, and Hell's fury has been unleashed!

An army of zombies march towards paradise, and your mission is to frantically dig graves fo them to lay in. Reach the gates of Hell and seal it off!...

Every grave you dig is a zombie prison, keeping them away from Heaven's exclusive real estate.

Once a zombie enters a grave, it will be trapped for only 30 seconds before another one is released from Hell's open gates.

Heaven's guest list is limited to only 5 souls. Your demise, or any zombie sneaking through, robs Heaven of precious space. When paradise reaches capacity, your journey ends.

So, TO HELL WITH YOU!

Amazing art!

Great art and music but I have no clue how to play this game :( And it's hard to figure out because every time I lose I have to go through the whole intro sequence again...
There's way more zombies than graves - do I have to rush to the end as quickly as possible, spamming E along the way?

@kasmilus, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, you have to balance digging graves and rushing forwards. Once you get far enough you stop digging graves and rush to the end of the level, avoiding the hazards, before heaven is full.

It was fun! The Art is amazing. Sounds are cool and atmospheric. "Welcome to Hell!"

Really solid jam entry :)

The cinematic at the beginning and the overall design is very good. Congrats

The graphics are amazing, the concept of the game is very creative and interesting. I just think it's too hard, but maybe it's just me beeing bad at the game lol. I found one bug, sometimes when you dig a grave you become invisible, and I REALLY hated that thing with the camera going all the way trough the level at the start. But Loved the intro! The sounds were mesmerizing.

@coffeup-studios heya thanks! We will look into the bug. Our software guy @sean-esopenko thinks he’s found a bug fix solution.

I'm a huge fan of the artwork! The eerie aesthetics are incredible and the title / victory screens are the icing on the cake.

I mention it in my recorded gameplay, but I think there should be some variety in the "welcome to hell" voice line when a zombie enters a grave. I am super sensitive to repeated sound effects (and stock sound effects that I recognize in movies / tv drive me crazy!) so I definitely wish there was a pool of voice lines for it to choose from.

I like the concept of trapping enemies, but I can't tell if it was actually required? I know in one of my runs I only dug about 2 graves and succeeded.

Anyway, enough rambling in the form of text, now you can hear my rambling in the form of a video! *wow!*

each playthrough i get a bit overrun before i can get down to the other graves then the first 4. a bit of tweaking and balance and this could be alot better.

@100th-coin thanks so much for your experienced feedback! We have much to think about re: skipping past the level showing on replay and then also just the general mechanics/idea of the game. Maybe adding some towers and making it a tower defense-ish game would have been good? This would also require enemies to damage the player. Perhaps, if we continue to rework this idea and world after the LD 54 jam. I like participating in the james because its really good learning and community feedback experience. I'm excited to check out your compo!

Cool art, and well done with the sound effects. It even has voice acting! Only criticism I have is that the "welcome to hell" overlapped way too often, and the intro showing off the level was a bit longer than it needed to be.

The art is pretty unique and I like the concept, reminds me a bit of Krusty's Super Funhouse on SNES where you have to lead the rats to their demise. Or a reverse Lemmings... Anyway, that's pretty innovative, congrats!

I love how the game is a little like a tower defense and speedrunning platformer game at the same time! Realizing what to actually do was confusing but ended up enjoyable!

Fun style and vibe but a bit hard to get into. Wish you could skip the intro when the zombies are running up.

What I liked:
- Art and amount of it, very nicely drawn level

What I didn't like:
- Unskippable cutscene in the beginning, very annoying

Overall I didn't really understand wether I lost or not. I got "Heaven is Full" message in the end... Did I do something wrong? Or is it a win? With the amount of zombies rushing you it is very unclear what I should do and explaining rules before player even knows what kind of game it is is not a very good approach imo.

The cinematic really impressed me, I haven't seen it in any other game. Loved the art and the sounds. What kept me from playing more is that I had to go through the whole cinematic again while I wanted to jump right into the gameplay. Also I felt the "Welcome to Hell" was playing too often - maybe a shorter SFX for the zombie entering the grave would be better, at least in my opinion.
Anyway, great entry and congrats for the work!

First of all the elephant in the room - the art is absolutely astonishing, good job guys. The sound and voice over is a great touch, I really love the music that plays in the background it fits the game perfectly!

The gameplay itself is quite good actually, however I had a problem to survive very long. It's quite difficult. That's probably my personal problem, because I'm a video game noob in general, but I still wanted to give you a feedback on that. For my personal taste I would like to have much less zombie rates coming towards you. Otherwise it's pretty freaking cool game guys. Seriously :)

@iluvatar thanks for the feedback. It was hard to tweak the zombie frequency because any less and you can just run to the end without digging any graves. We had conversations after releasing about different difficulty levels to make the game more accessible for players.

@sean-esopenko Of course, don't worry about it. It's very hard to balance a game in 48 hours lol

Loved the art, sound, and voice acting! Having to rewatch the opening sequence was tedious but besides that it was very well made. Well done!

I really liked the idea of the game! I like the dubbing, the Halloween style, the mechanics, I like how everything gives me an air of nostalgia for the time when I was a child and looked for games on the internet. This type of game would make me very happy at that time.Maybe it would be cool, after the 1st time a jump opening button. I'm terrible at parkour, I confess lol, so I can't go very far. But I really liked the game, congratulations.

Really nice art and presentation - amazing amount of detailed and cohesive assets for the game timeframe. Music feels nice and appropriate to the setting/energy of the game.
Nice work implementing some voice acting in there to help set the tone of things. Audio implementation-wise I definitely don't think the voice-line spam was a good idea (the 'welcome' one) - it comes up way too often for it to be desirable for the player experience.
Definitely a little bit of a confusing experience at the start, but I really like where it's headed. Nice work everyone.

Beautiful game, Played it twice and couldn't win yet, but I think with a bit of practice I would. The only feedback I could think of was making the walkthrough of the level at the beginning a tad shorter. The art is amazing!

The graphics are neat and the platforming felt good. Not really sure what I'm supposed to do? the game starts by tracking all the zombies while panning slowly backwards through the level, putting me in control when it's seemingly already too late?
ArtofLuba
19. Oct 2023 · 18:32 UTC
@simonlarsen Haha yeah we are working on polishing it up, post-LD! Youre supposed to dig graves so that the zombies fall into them. Its a big wild and unhinged heh

Lovely graphics and concept really enjoyed the premise as well, quite unique take on the platformer genre! Felt it was a little too hard, maybe that intro through the stage made it almost too difficult to pick up pace to dig the graves or perhaps I was missing something? Other than that, it was really well made, looked fantastic, had some graphic humour and the controls were spot on! Well done :)

Really well done on this! The art is absolutely gorgeous and the voice acting adds really well to the charming vibe that you've created here. It was fun competing with the zombies on who was the worst at jumping too kind of made everything that little bit more frantic.

@sinclairstrange Thanks for your comment! We learned a lot this game jam (again) so we are tweaking some things and making it so that level preview can be skipped after seeing it once haha. Lots to work on with the concept!
