It took me a while to figure out the melee combat, hitboxes are a bit weird (you can use that to your advantage). Also, difficulty at the beginning is quite high, and the fact that you have to restart when you die can be frustrating. At some point I got lost about my upgrades, as they are nowhere displayed (I think?)
Still, overall, really nice game!
I got heavily swarmed on my first few tries but then I found a nice little cheese with the sword. I upgraded the melee damage a couple of times so I would one-shot all the enemies and then just pump attack speed. I could simply stand in one place on the lower side of the ship and kill all enemies by swinging upwards as that hits both left and right. Nothing could touch me at that point anymore.
I eventually bought the bigger ship but that seems to be bugged? In the next level there was no booty and no ship.

The cost of the upgrades seemed like a lot to start, but you started increasing the value of the barrels, which makes you feel like you can get there sooner.
The two types of weapon allowed for variation in strategy, and I always felt like I was finding ways to improve.
I think the time on the ship might be a little long, but I'm not too sure. At first, I thought that you could decrease the time and then increase the rate of everything else (enemy spawns and attacking). That would make it higher intensity for shorter periods of time. It would be something to try!
But then, it started getting a bit harder, so maybe higher intensity would be too hard :P Really, I could play this game a long time!! The art style was really cool, too.
