Magical Veggies by zanagi
You are an apprentice witch. Today your task is to harvest mana by throwing magical veggies into a specialized cauldron.
Sounds easy, no?
When same vegetables collide they combine into a larger vegetable! Just... remember that the amount of space in the cauldron is limited. If you're not careful where you throw them the veggies will overflow from the cauldron in no time!
The game has 2 modes: - Challenge Mode: Levels are cleared once you reach a specified score/veggie threshold (can be seen on the side). Intended as a tutorial that introduces different mechanics and level layouts one-by-one. - Endless Mode: Keep playing until the veggies overflow! All mechanics and layouts unlocked from the start. Go for the highest score possible! :rocket:

(This game was heavily inspired by the Watermelon Game (スイカゲーム) that recently went viral in Japan. For this Jam, I tried adding some original gimmicks, such as new levels and "Spells" for interacting with the veggies.)

Didn't hear of the mellon game but I can now see the influence. I like the witchy take on it. Couldn't reach the pumpkin yet, but I should probably move on to some other games for now.
The merging sound gets a bit too loud when a lot of merges happen at once. Plays all nice and well otherwise.
I have to admit, I did not need any of the spells to complete - I think it would work better if levels were significantly harder so that you actually need to use them, but you get more spells to use (2 pops per level won't make a difference, at this point it's just a flavour).
Love the little hats highlighting the choice of an option in main menu :)
The mechanics of veggies falling and colliding with each other are super well done, in my opinion. I really appreciate it when the controls are comfortable to use! Thanks to that, the gameplay is smooth and enjoyable :)
The sounds you used are also very cute.
I didn't play the game you were inspired by, but some of the ideas here are reminiscent of other popular genres, like bejeweled-like mobiles games where you combine few objects to create a new one, and of tetris. That's not a bad thing ofc, I think it's cool to combine all the different elements in one cauldron, so to say, to create something new ^^
P.S.: There is a small bug where when you collide with two same-type veggies at once, it upgrades by two. But it doesn't happen a lot.
