DEVELOPER NOTES
---
We're quite happy with the end result of this game, we had planned to add more features / attacks / objectives but, as always, all of our ideas can't be done in 72 hours!
We also had a new member join in this LD, Ollie, who spent his time doing all the character art & learning how to create sprite sheets for animations etc.
We had a few issues when trying to submit our game, issues which caused the built version to crash instantly (when it all worked in the Unity editor!). We managed to identify this as an issue with our sound files, so we reimported these corrupted sounds and everything appears to work OK *fingers crossed*.
If we had more time (or decide to do a post-compo version), we'd love to add in the following:
- More boss attacks & abilities (either unlocking over time or with hp decrease)
- More hero types (mage, rogue, etc)
- More playable boss types
- More levels
- More player objectives
- More character barks / names
- Fancy particle effects / lighting tweaks
- Smarter AI (with pathfinding)
- Environmental traps / interactive objects
- Balancing
We hope you enjoy playing what we did manage to create, as always Ludum Dare has been a blast! :D
Time to play + rate!

UPDATE 06/09/2015: POST COMP ENTRY AVAILABLE!
We spent some time after the LD33 competition improving, tweaking & adding a few new features to the game.
This includes:
– One new hero types (mage, ranged attack)
– Two new boss attacks (twin lazor & mega lazor)
– A new RAGE MODE ability (when low HP, player gets 1.5x movement and attack speed + unlocks mega lazor)
– One new music track (for rage mode)
– More character barks
– More character names
– Fancy particle effects / lighting tweaks
– Smarter AI
– Balancing
We hope you enjoy these improvements, obviously we’d love to add a load more – but as the base code was all written within 72 hours on very little sleep, we’d be better off making it again from scratch :)

Would like the controls to be a little more smooth, if you do that, add some different abilities, and a couple of features, I think you'd have a REAL tight game for serious submission.
BTW, I'm boots ranked #2 :D
Great game! Beautiful graphics and sound, nice concept (last boss on a MMO!) and really fun to play. It has been really satisfying to squash Sir Buttface and company. Good job!
I would love to play a post-LD version!
With the additions you intend to add, I'm sure it can become a lot better.
Nice job!
Oh yeah, nice Leeroy reference ;)
The art and sound were pretty awesome, and the overall concept is pretty good. With a bunch more character types and better AI, and probably an unlock system for your boss to upgrade and choose attack types or defenses, you'd have a pretty solid final product I think. It would be pretty cool if you could truly be the "boss" and change the dungeon around as well to add traps or minions or something like that.
I felt as though the boss character could use a little more visual feedback when he gets hit. Some screenshake/flashing sounds or particle effects, etc would "sell" the hits better.
PS: I can confirm the Linux version works!
OS X version works by the way.
Wonderful work!
If you continue with this post-jam, in addition to the things you have already planned, it might be interesting to have a fake 'aggro' mechanic, where you get new attacks the lower your health is - might be a nice risk / reward mechanic.
That might be an interesting direction to go in the future - additional bosses/characters with different mechanics (it would be HILARIOUS if I could Divebomb the daylights out of the players, or maybe summon adds to fight alongside me).
The one problem I had is that it's not clear you can't attack while moving - I kept pressing space and wondering why I wasn't doing anything until I tried it while I was standing still.
That said, if you need any extra names to include among your players, I suggest looking into .hack and Sword Art Online. I'll admit I was a LITTLE disappointed I didn't see a Kirito trying to hack his way through me. XD
I'm still really impressed, great job. I'd love to play a polished version that I hope you'll be making.
I have to say that my favorite part of this game is the hero characters, though. They each feel like they have a lot of personality to them, between their randomly generated names and the surprisingly large pool of sprites that they seem to pull from.
gj!
Good game, very well fitted to the theme. Nice graphics & sound too. I miss two things though: something to recover life when you clear some waves and new abilities/mechanics to kill more soldiers.
Anyway, one of the most polished games I've played in this LD, good work all of you!
The graphics and sound are really nice. No obvious bugs as well which is good. Feels like it needs more depth. But I'm sure you'll get there as you add different attack types and units. Great proof-of-concept!
Nice art too. And all the people are awesome with all of their comments!
Awesome graphics and nice audio. The leaderboard was a nice touch too.
The game could benefit from different attacks and more varied character types with better AI, but this is definitely a solid entry overall!
I really had fun with this entry and it's one of the few games I actually wanted to keep playing more and more. Congrats!
Excelent job!
This game looks so nice, it's unbelievable you made this in 3 days!
5 stars for every aspect of it
Gameplay is a little to repetitive but everything else is good, especially graphics !
I found that it's easy to just kind of dilly-dally-dawdle around and drive my time score up if there are only one or two guys left that are easy to avoid. Perhaps there should be some way to limit the time you can spend on any given wave to deter excessive stalling.
Also walls are easily exploitable, but that should be fixed with the future pathfinding AI, right? Haha.

Fun and satisfying game. I loved all the names too. Awesome job you guys!
Looks and sounds neat, but the gameplay was a bit monotonous. Judging by the post jam version you have a vision on how to make it better though.
It would be nice to have some goals that made the game not endless (e.g. survive 10 waves to win), but otherwise it's superb
very interesting!
the fireball is so Damnit! Especially when i in the rage-mode~~
aha~ now i am the no.1 of the ranking list~~( I love Rank list~ Especially for a cool game)ಠ౪ಠ
I played both version, the original one is a bit repetitive, but the post jam really correct all of this.
In both version the graphics are beautiful for pixels.
In both version, the final boss is still a bit slow... But it's ok if you are a giant robot. ;)
Nice Job! Well done
I also liked that even if you mash space really hard, you'll still die.
And the post-deadline version is indeed a whole lot better still. :)
Overall fun and appealing. Good job!!
