Mad Dash Moving Inc. by Lone_Wolf

[raw]
made by Lone_Wolf for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

You receive a call late in the evening.

"Tomorrow at 8am sharp, no questions, no dropped furniture, and all of it out within 5 hours"

You only have 1 moving truck at your disposal, and you don't have enough time to make multiple trips, so things will have to be packed tight. It's an impossible job for most, but not for you, because you work for:

Mad Dash Moving Inc.

A tetris-like game in where you drop furniture into your moving truck, as fast and efficiently as possible.

Your truck is not magic, furniture will not disappear when you have enough of it in a row

Controls

Click on the settings button when you play the game, you can view your keys and rebind them there

Fun little game! First I was confused why the rows did not clear. But then I read the backstory and it all made sense! I like your game, its easy to pick up, but hard to master. Because the lines do not clear, you have to play a diffrent strategy, than with regular tetris

The music and sound effects are very well done!

You can't not love tetris clones! Loved the different shapes, and the backstory change in mechanic.

100% classic project. I would appreciate it if there is a control introduction. WASD works instead of the arrow key.

@fortho Thanks for playing!

There is a settings button in the main menu, which you can click to change your keybinds. I assumed most people would click that before they went to play the game.

I will never fail to play a tetris game obsessively. Amazing graphics and audio! I agree that I was also confused with the rows not clearing, but that makes the game all the more challenging!

The classic game is always fun to play! Waste like 10s to find out how to control it lol but then enjoy it a lot. Good job!

This was a really well made short game! Some furniture shapes throw my whole plan out of whack. It's goo to see a tetris-ish game that do not conform to traditional shapes.

Here is my high score:

A fun interpretation of Tetris.

Very fun and simple tetris clone. Nice to see the use of triminoes and pentominoes which can really affect how you have to stack. Would be nice to have an explanation of how each part of the score actually works and the game seems to just end randomly at the end. The game accomplishes its goals incredibly well

A truly engaging interpretation of limited space! The system of mandatory placement is very cool; it's challenging to score all the points without leaving any empty space. Well done ! 😁

My score hehe

Good game, as I saw in some comments it is a classic game so it will definitely be fun. However, I would like to see something more, some story, some different feature, some more challenge, something. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, don't get me wrong, but maybe it's something to think about if you want to continue developing the game ^^. I really liked the soundtrack, it's repetitive but not boring, congratulations. I thought the furniture sprites were well crafted, it would be cool to see a background scene as well crafted as the furniture. Anyway, just 3 days, I understand that it's tense and you can't always do everything, I had fun playing so it fulfills its purpose, to entertain. Congratulations on the game ^^

@natano Thanks for playing!

Yeah, you can definitely see where we ran out of time, there were a lot of plans but we had to cut down on them due to complications. I have a lot more appreciation for the background code of tetris games after this lol

With that said though I'm quite happy with what we ended up with considering it's our first time teaming up together, my username is 'lone-wolf' so that's not a small feat :P

Sorry for yet another comment @lone-wolf haha, I don't want to crowd your chat. But I really understand, just being able to make your idea work the way you want is already a great achievement with the time of ludum dare. I've also tried to make a tetris and I understand that the code is not as easy as it seems haha. Congratulations on your results! :)

You have some really weirdly shaped furniture pieces :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The game itself is just like tetris with its biggest feature removed and some different pieces, so you won't get many stars for innovation, but you'll get many on theme. The game itself is well executed and fun to play.

Stacking furniture like tetris blocks is quite a nice idea. I liked the imaginative furniture sprites :smile:

Haha, i crashed the game in my first run when I was tryring to sneak a piece in a spot where it shouldn´t belong!
Its a really nice tetris-style game.

Personally, I would like to have a longer music-loop, since i felt that i actually hear where it loops.

Overall, nice game!
