Justine Time by abcdef65g

[raw]
made by abcdef65g for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Uh-oh! While cleaning the tower, apprentice witch Justine messed up and accidentally released all of her teacher's prized familiars! Archwizard Balanzadias always says that his great enemies are waiting for a chance to get rid of his familiars, which is why he keeps them safely in his tower.... Uh-oh...

But not all hope is lost! Justine can use the Time Rod from the archwizard's vault! With the Time Rod active, everything will be slowed down, except for a limited space around Justine. With this ability, it may be possible to save the poor familiars from certain doom! Go, Justine, arrive just in time for a successful rescue!

Player, help Justine save the cute familiars of archwizard Balanzadias! Go through the platforming stages and carry the familiars (and yourself) to safety, avoiding all manner of dastardly weapons and traps! Use the arrow keys/WASD to move, space to jump, and Z to carry/drop familiars.

All art assets are made by the team. Music by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com).

I'm surprised this has no rating yet with the cover image being is so pretty! The art in this game are great! The idea was really cool too, speeding up and slowing down things as both a blessing and a curse is great design!

I think the level design could have a little more time spent on. With such an intricate mechanic, the levels are too big and messy. The pacing of the game is also really slow, even when the objects around you are supposed to be fast. The first few music really fit the game, but the later music choices felt off.

This game has potential with some balancing. I'd love to see more of what you make in the future.

I like the art and the gameplay is fun! Movement is very slippery though. Nonetheless, great game!

control feels a little wired but the idea was really good.

i think the idea is really cool, but the game just needs a bit more polish. controls feel a bit off (esp. ladder mechanics feel inconsistent), and imo the art doesn't feel too cohesive, but that's probably just the result of a really tight deadline and a very ambitious task! i think with a bit more time, you guys definitely have what it takes to take this idea to the next level (and honestly many many levels beyond that too since it really is a cool concept)

Super interesting mechanics!

As others have mentioned, the platforming here is pretty tricky, I didn't get very far.

Art is cute, concept is fun. Nice work!

I was able to complete the game! The player movement could use some refinement; I wished it was a little more responsive and less slippery. Having said that, the main mechanic of the game is actually really creative and interesting! I liked the time-based puzzles that came from it. It would be cool to expand on this idea a little more! Great job!

The style and the idea are nice, congrats!
To relieve some frustration, it may be nice not to reset the level, but to have some intermediate automatic save points.

After the first level, I'm not sure to feel the theme of limited space, but I had fun nonetheless.

Ayyy that was pretty good, the gameplay is decent but the movement feels a bit slippery, the art is great tho. Overall a solid entry (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ )

I like the idea of the difference of time speed around the character. That fit the theme in a very original way. The graphics are simple but effective. But the movement is a bit slippery. It's not clean easy to go up on the ladders, and it would be helpful to stop the jump when the player release the spacebar, because the kind of level design you are making required a lot of precision. I stop to play in the level 2 because I find it too difficult. But I know it's hard to polish enough during the gamejam. But really, this idea of changing of time speed on the collision box c around the character is really cool.

Cool level designs! And nice work with the art and all the animals. I recommend starting off with an easier level, just to help the player feel more confident.

Love the concept and the gorgeous art style but the controls are rough enough to make the game a bit too hard imo

I like the concept and use of the theme!

Well done! Take a candy! :candy:

Super cute art. I tried plugging in a controller but actually found WASD worked better. I couldn't get up the first ladder with the controller but could with WASD. Usually Unity input detection is pretty good across input devices, so I don't know what's up with that. As for feedback, I found the initial difficulty to be too hard. It would have helped me to have an easier task to start out with, like a simple "jump over this and grab the cat" kind of scenario.

A unique mechanic with nice art. Like others I had trouble with the ladders. Overall, very cool!

Great idea, the little witch and the kitty are adorable indeed. However, I find the controls a bit challenging, the movement doesn't feel very responsive.

Nice job guys - especially on the artwork! Also - a pun in the title gets top ratings from me every time.

A really cool idea! Loved the system with the different time velocities, a really creative take on the theme! The title screen art is really cute, and the art itself was nice. It really made me care about the little animals going in the road to death ;-; Really cool concept. I think maybe the controlls are a little too slipery, and the game would benefit a lot from having more friction in the movement. Also the colision were a bit confusing in the edges, which made me get stuck when i tried to climb the ladders in some parts. But the overall experience is really interesting! I think that with a little more polish this could turn out to be a really cool game for even more than just the jam :) Nice work!

I think the idea is really neat and creative!

I wanted to check this out because I saw the really cute art!

Using the limited space in the context of slowing down and speeding up things

The execution definitely needs more polish tho, especially the controls, they make this a little bit too hard to control, they are just a tiny bit too floaty. It also would be nice if you could jump of the ladders while you are on them.

as it's stands now I'd say it a little rough around the edges

I think there is something in there that can be great if you manage to expand and polish this

Beautiful cover art and overall a pretty good idea.

I would definitely work more on the art within the game and maybe make "Present-Time" mask around the character round instead of rectangle.

And because it's Game Maker it can't be easy to make a good platformer there, built-in physics of the engine are just not good. If you like making this genre of games I would recommend Construct 3. It's perfectly equipped for the job.

Good Luck!

The art was great and I liked the asthetics and vibe that the game had going.

Was struggling with the end of the ladder though and had to time it with jumping which I found quite difficult.

Otherwise solid game.
