Diableotes by Dining Philosopher
IMPORTANT: there is currently a bug where if you use
SPACErather thanUPto jump, the XP needed for lvl up increases. So when in doubt, play withUP. Will fix shortly.
A game about the lion Diableotes, who lives in captivity and tries to avoid sugar. My initial idea was for it to be about someone in confined isolation, rocking back and forth and fighting off their mental demons, but then I remembered that that would scare my 3-year-old niece who is kind of the target audience. I suppose it turned out kind of violent anyway, and definitely on the difficult side (but beatable!).

I feel though, the balance is off. the fecal bombs and Avalance Dash seem a bit too strong and fiery breath a bit to weak.
The avalance Dash covers very much space, whilst something like the fiery breath covers almost no space, the fiery breath does good damage, but the projectiles dont hit enough to make up for the risk you take. Id probably would like for fiery breath to shoot more projectiles so whats in front of you dies, while the risk lies in stuff that comes from behind you or the sides!
The way you already implemented differeny playstiles is really nice to me! I love just playing on one half of the map whilst I have avalanche dash, its soo good.
Spirit Stampede also seems really good to me, I like the animation and it also feels slick, though it also lacks damage for the small space it occupies, especially if you compare it to avalance Dash or fecal bomb!
Also:
An indicator for how many times I can still jump would be great, Im always right in the zone and be like "Im gonna jump to trigger my spears and kill this!" whilst I then realize oh no I don't have anymore jumps.
But I like your take on limited space, hehe!
Fecal bomb actually seems underpowered to me since late game damage is quite low and you have to move around the map a lot to get the most out of it. It's interesting to see what strategies are good if not necessarily fun (like the "stay-on-one-side"-strategy). I also realized that the bottom is far too safe, with the lion bouncing so little, so you can get away with most things if you just stay there and wait.
What do you mean by the number of jumps? This is in principle unlimited, only if you jump out of the top of the screen you fall all the way down before you can jump again.
Hmm might be with upgrades, but I didnt get very far with any of the options sadly, its quite hard! ``"
The audio felt like it would serve well as a bit less is more, the game compels you to keep playing but the sound effects are quite grating, there was simple solution but you have a great little product here and wouldn't want to lose people's attention.
keep it up, lots of fun, instead of spears maybe porcupines?
Played for 5 min, still don"t know what to really thinks about it except that I had a great time.
Good job
I agree with the notion that Avalance Dash is overpowered. Paired with Fecal Bombs it kinda trivializes the game as you can just bounce between the wall and the middle block. The avalanches clear most of the enemies (and in the end deal massive damage to the boss) while the poopy bombs keep your precious little bouncing area clear of any random stragglers. I tried quite a few strategies and this seemed to be the most reliable.
it took me a while to understand what and how... and just when I thought I understood it, I died of diabetes
but better graphics would help me better orientate myself on the monitor
great entry
