Door Slammers by gagouman

[raw]
made by gagouman for Ludum Dare 54 (COMPO)

It is a crazy evening in a restaurant kitchen, where orders keep arriving and you're the only cook on duty. Unfortunately, your space is quite limited as you only have one oven with three spaces and the customers are not very patient. Let's say the oven door might keep slamming...

This is my fourth Ludum Dare and the first one I complete with Godot. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below, enjoy!

Tools used - Godot 4.1 (Engine) - Aseprite (Graphics) - jsfxr (Audio) - Chrome Music Lab (Music)

How to play use the mouse to drag the meals around, click to open/close the door. There is a very quick in-game tutorial that I recommend doing.

I really loved the concept and simplicity of this! Even though the graphics were fairly simple, the gameplay felt, to me, slightly addicting (I couldn't stop going for a little while haha). The mechanics did feel a little off (pizzas needing 500 degrees which was hard to keep unless leaving the door closed meant I'd just lose a bunch of other orders) and the RNG on the materials available felt a little bit unlucky sometimes. If fleshed out a bit more this could be a lovely little high-score-arcade-like game!

Made it until 1027$!
Overall fun and hectic, and once I got the hang of it I could deliver most orders. I kept it at 500 degrees though and managed the heat by opening the oven only, not sure that's how it's supposed to be but I felt smart :-)

Cool concept! A bit too difficult for me but I was happy vibing to the music anyways. Nice work!

After a number of failed attempts, I followed @bernhard's strategy a found some success. I enjoyed the experience overall, a nice intuitive gameplay loop is also a great thing. For a small observation, the hitbox for the trash can (while it makes sense logically) caused me to waste a handful of precious time as I would drag it to the trash can as a whole instead of the top of it.

Nice game! I like the idea and the gameplay felt really nice!
It does take a bit of a learning curve to be able to survive more than one round of orders though.
I think it would be nice if we had a bit more time or starting money to fulfill order, especially at the beginning?
Or maybe that is just me being absolutely terrible at this...

Imagine doing this with 3 kids around... Grandma was hardcore! Very fun game and concept, and actually addicting. At some point I had like 7 orders at the same time and just accepted I was never gonna win that run. IMO the hitboxes could be a little bit bigger, specially for trashing things, it would help a lot. Again, great concept and execution, congrats!

Neat game! Something about the music/sounds/pace felt very hectic (but in a good way) and really got me immersed in trying to get the meals done and not burn too much. As others have mentioned the small-ish hitboxes (both the trash and the delivery counter) gave me a bit of trouble but once I got used to them it was fun to try to optimize oven temperatures and when to put in/take out various items.
