Conquest by arachnid56
Conquest is a simple strategy game based on the Risk boardgame. Outmaneuver your AI opponents to take control of Europe.
It's a simple interpretation of the theme (fighting over limited space) but I really wanted to prototype this kind of game and play around with strategy AI so here it is!
How to play:
The game is turn based with 3 phases per turn:
- Placement phase: place new units in controlled territories
- Move phase: move units between controlled territories
- Attack phase: attack neighbouring countries
To understand how each phase is played, an in-game tutorial is available by hovering the ? located in the top left of the screen.

The world camera is controlled by WASD keys.

Looks really nice but unfortunately, i can't select the country i want to move to :sob:
Your tutorial was a good point, very smart, thanks for that!
It's look like great work, ping me if i make something wrong or if you solve this potential bug
@littlebear totally agree about the music, I couldn't find anything that suited it. Thanks for the kind comment
@flying-butter-studio Hey, sorry you're having issues, it could be a bug but has generally worked for me. Try these steps:
1. you need to be in the movement phase (second icon)
2. Click on the country you want to move units from (Must have at least 1 unit)
3. Click on the country you want to move units to
4. Use up arrow key to choose the number of units
5. Press enter to move the units
It says you can see log somewhere? -> later found out that enter-button thingie.
you don't choose how many units you use to attack another country? or is it the amount of unit one country you control at that time?
Ok, I pressed the "finish turn" before pressed Enter to do the attack. Maybe it should be a button too, so it would go with rest of the UI. And have the finish turn disabled if you have selected to attack another country.
Maybe when player doesn't have anything to do show it to the player, so they can finish their turn and move on faster.
There is no log of AI turns. you just see them happen. Maybe a log list of all the events what have happened would be nice.
There is no undoing unit placement. maybe with right-mouse button to undo placement of a unit to a country. but only those units that have been placed on that turn.
Ok turns out you can attack multiple countries in each phase. Just need to do them one country at a time.

I think I found a bug. All of a sudden my germany has 39 units, when it last round had 3. Also Italy got 10 units, when it was earlier at 4.

Next round AI places wins countries that are not next to its borders. I guess the visuals don't match with the countries they have or some state of who owns what country is mangled at this point.
Can't see Norway's(Oh wait, it's over Sweden, Sweden's own count is in bad place), Croatia's and Luxemburg's unit count when placing units. Also UK and Greece unit count is in hard to read. I guess these were centered on geographically.
Got victory at the end.
Maybe add some juice to the fighting phase and moving units phase could use animation of units moving from country to other. Could use some music too!
Very interesting game, would definitely play it more after bugs have been mashed!
I do want to continue working on this project so all this feedback is very useful to me.
it's alright however the UI needs a massive touch up. pressing enter and using arrow keys to attack and change the amount of unit you want to move should really be on screen buttons instead. additionally, alerts should be given if you're trying to do something in the wrong phase and there should be a cap to how much you can scroll/scale down the size of the map to fit in one frame.
If you continue working on this, mechanics from risk like moving troops to conquered territories after conquering territories should be brought back aswell as more mechanics and probably animations of troops moving around.
decent but needs more polish.
