A Living Place in Limited Space

when woolen wizards whip up walls

medium_illustration.png

After pondering his orb in search of fellow fluffy friends, our friendly Wool Wizard found a timeline where there was an abundance of sheep - but a scarcity in suitable living space.

After traveling through time and space, he arrived at a city whose industrial increase in prosperity arose from working with wool. And where there's wool, there's friends.

But there comes a catch! The city council's conditions for staying at their place are plentiful and intricate. In desperate need of sheep shelters, you are tasked with building the impossible and constructing the statically improbable. Between their places of production, you will need to squeeze in houses for herds of sheep.

Concept

In A Living Place in Limited Space you are dealt a hand of compact components for constructing cozy chateaus. But beware of spatial constraints and intensifying inhabitants: The sky is the limit!

Pick parts from your hand by clicking them, so you can put into an appropriate place by clicking on the map. For valid placement, the left- and rightmost edges of each part have to be supported.

Every part can hold a certain amount of sheep, as can be seen on the numbers on your cards. Try and keep your building's capacity ahead of the ever growing flock while avoiding the adjacent buildings!

After every tile you place, new sheep will chose to reside your glorious tower. You can keep track of the number of residents, your tower's capacity and the number of incoming visitors with the numbers up top.

Try and find out if you can reach the required capacity of 400 sheep before you run out of places to put your parts. If you're feeling adventurous, you can reach unfathomable heights in an open-ended gameplay loop.

Controls

The game is primarily controlled with your mouse. You can change the view on your creation with your scroll wheel or W/S buttons. The game can be paused with the Escape key.

I really enjoyed the quirky concept behind this game. The stacking mechanic felt satisfying and I it requires some strategy in order to maximize building footprint to go higher. If you were to expand on the idea I would like to see a slightly wider play space and some new uniquely shaped building pieces. It could also make for a nice cozy "sim-city-lite" building game with a free-build mode.

Great job!

Very fun and relaxing building game! Great job! My only suggestion would be that it felt like there weren't a lot of options once you built yourself into a corner and then I had to just place columns over and over and be sad. Not sure what the best way to solve that would be? Maybe an early out would be fine? Or, maybe a way to get other helpful simple shapes? Not sure! Either way it was a blast to play

First impression: the music is pretty amazing. Then I tried to gather what I need to do. It's not very straight forward with my 5s attention span brain but even I got it. :D It's very chill. I don't get the whole sheep theme but I like it. I went up to 177 first time, I'll try again. Good job, pretty good overall! Got to 400 :D

I liked the game and was supprised by the smooth game play! It would be nice if you could see your building after game loss, because it looks quite funny!

What a satisfying game! The camera is moving a little bit too fast and the placement logic was rather unintuitive for me at first. Other than that, I really like it, and it also somehow fits the theme well!

A lot of fun! I really enjoy the mixture of 2D and 3D in the visual style. The notes you get as you fail to meet population growth add some fun flavour. If you were to expand on the idea a bit more it would be nice to see some variety in methods for getting yourself out of sticky situations, rather than columns being the only option and always available. Cool Concept!

really good game, hope you turn it into a full game, with like you see inside and the sheeps are walking around, and hmm, different levels, and some different tilesets or maybe different animals houses, and maybe like roguelike you like unlock more building tiles when you get to certain heights or something.

one thing is it was slightly confusing which parts need to be supported.. altho it made sense, at some point i thought i needed EVERY part under the building piece to have a piece there, but it just has to be like table legs i guess

cool game cool music and mood, i rated 5 stars all i liked it alot

... oh cool source in godot i want to learn godot more ill check it out loved this game

This is a very relaxing building game, i killed like 30 minutes with it, i liked it. The music is amazing and i liked the style of graphics too, the buildings were quite monotounos for me but i love the game nonetheless.

I liked this! Definitely a chill, well rounded casual experience for me. With crazy cool graphics and music. Perhaps too easy? Not something I'd penalize for a ludum dare entry, or perhaps I got lucky. But there is good puzzle potential! Cheers!

I really like how this game controlled. I played it for a good while. It was well made and a bit of a challenge since once you place a chunk it's final! Great work!

Its cute I loved the art, and there's something satisfying about lining up the ladders even when it puts you in a more precarious situation

What a pleasant relaxing game! Nice I managed to accommodate 152 sheeple before losing.

The music especially is super nice, good job to whoever did that :).

I like it ^^ Some pieces I felt that should be allowed to place, like not need all of the bottom supported, just some of it. Felt good though, pretty chill.

really nice! love the idea yall went with! I would say maybe subdivide the game into little "levels" or goals so the player can learn to try to new strats to improve and encourage more play time. The music was very nice and chill, some SFX were too loud and surprising. The art was very nice too!

Cool game! Maybe the buildings placement should be a bit more permissive, because i found it a bit frustrating to no be able to put a building because of 2 missing pixels on one side. Other than that it was very chill I liked it!

Very interesting. This game is evil. It just gives me the worst possible tiles. But seriously, it's a fun puzzle, good job. Even the worldbuilding, damn. A world of buildings)

Fun and good use of the theme! It's very difficult to have the camera pan control on my touchpad and it may be better to use WASD or arrows to move the camera, but it's not a problem for a jam game!

Well done! Take a candy! :candy:

So I kept building, and building, and building...

![Screenshot_5.jpg](///raw/732/a2/z/6037d.jpg)

But without anything to stop you from abusing columns, the endless mode is truly endless

It's a great game. Mechanics are simple, but they work well together to create an engaging gameplay. The music fits perfectly, and the graphics does its job well. A fun idea and an interesting take on the theme.

Great jam job!

@fabula-rasa Thank you. We invested many time in the development of the game idea and how the construction of the buildings should be implemented.

My scores have been all around ~160 😅 I guess one thing that would have made it more fun for me was if there was a way to discard a card to get a new one - even if it cost a turn and more sheep arrived - because sometimes we get in a situation where there's nothing to do but to place columns, just waiting for the game to end.

Cozy game! I enjoyed it. It was easy to end up with bad pieces though. But maybe that is a skill issue
