Tiny Bites, Big Delights: A Culinary Adventure in a Pocket Sized Kitchen by asbjorn

[raw]
made by asbjorn for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

We made a tiny factory/kitchen game, where you play on a 2x2 grid.

The catch: you get to subdivide one of the squrares into another 2x2 grid.

Play here: https://hjemme.computer/

We didn't get nearly as far as we'd like to- but oh well.

We might fork the game and make some more levels for Extra. The core mechanics work pretty well, we think.

Tutorial

Items are feeded into your machine from the rice bag at the top. 1024g of rice are in each batch.

The goal is to feed the required items into the output square at the bottom

When you click a square, you have 5 options:

Subdivide

subdivide.png Divides the current square into 4 smaller ones. The 4 squares will be joined by a small red circle at the center, that can be used to merge them back to a single square

Conveyor

conv-straight.svg.png Places a conveyor, facing any neighboring square you choose. Moves any items on it to that square

Splitter

mach-chop.svg.png Has two outputs instead of one, and splits any items into two (halves their weight)

Combiner

mach_combine.png Adds two items together, adding their weights and ingredients

Cooker

mach-boil.svg.png Cooks food items, but takes 3 ticks to do so.

Cozy music! I think I worked out what the mechanics are, but some labels/descriptions would go a long way. Unfortunate that you ran out of time for more levels, but props for submitting something!

The game looks nice and sounds good, but would like some tutorial or instructions on how to play the game and get into it quickly. There's a lot of options and it isn't obvious what's happening or what things do.

I love the idea, I'm just not sure what I am doing with the interface. That might just be me.

Great art! I think that the game need some instructions here or at the beginning to understand clearly what to do

Thanks for the feedback . I added a tutorial here in the description, to hopefully guide people a little bit :)

I can see the concept here, but more levels would've done quite a lot to tighten the focus of the game, as with one level its quite hard to grasp where the would go.

I like the cover/title art for it though!
