Earthpocalypse by RobotHoboDanceParty

[raw]
made by RobotHoboDanceParty for LD33 (COMPO)
Well, for my second Ludum Dare I thought things couldn't be any worse than my first... Then I had to make this entire game in under 24 hours to submit it for the compo entry due to school having pre-exams, surprise sports games and getting sick. But somehow I DID IT! I don't hope to get much from this game as it was quite rushed and I had more I wanted to add but I'm happy with what I have.
.
TL/DR: Game was made in under 24 hours cause school but Im happy with it.
.
.
Game info:
The would is dying! So you must research and gather the earths resources in order to build a spaceship and escape the planet.
Build different buildings to get resources to build more buildings to get even more resources,
but be warned the more resources you get the more the earth will die. Good Luck!

Thanks to those who play, vote and comment. Best of luck to everyone else!

EDIT: had to fix a bug where boost buildings were taking away HP too fast, making the game impossible to finish.
.
POINTLESS EDIT:
To those wondering why the planet dies when you win. think of it like trying to keep the earth stable enough to build a rocket before the earth goes ka-poot.

Pretty cool! I managed to get the spaceship on my second attempt but there is a little trick which can ease the task : when you build a ressource next to a boost and immediately remove it you gain ressource for free.

Nice job for a 24 hour game! Love the way the beats of the music control the ticks of the resources - very intuitive!

Fine game, but it could have had more depth like a progression tree (better versions of buildings to construct, etc.) Also, kind of a missed opportunity that the earth doesn't pulse with the music :/

I like how it's sort of rhythm based, it feels a lot like "Papers Please".
It's fun to figure out what you need to prioritize in order to balance the worlds health with the resources you need to leave, and that also works itself into the theme you were building up.

Really liked the beats mechanic with the marching music! Seems like the restore building is a bit unbalanced - you can get enough to make waiting for a long time be a workable strategy.

Good pixel art (in Gameboy screen tone :p) Grat sound. It's based on the rythm of the music!

The song was catchy, not much else in the way of sound effects. I love games in this style, so it was a lot of fun.

Music was fantastic, and the gameplay was engaging, with the down time being short enough to not get boring.

I was able to bank a lot of planet HP and resources by combining resources, restore, and boosts, and then just do a rush on research at the end. This concept has the potential to be expanded to something really awesome.

Great job!

I think a Timer is missing to make this even more awesome. This is a bit too easy for my taste without it.

Good result for 24h! It can be expanded into a bigger space strategy about a civilization which constantly wonders around the galaxy, draining resources from the planets and leaving chaos behind.

Here I made videos of me playing LD entries: http://youtu.be/6Al6aF0oETA

Quirky little resource management game, although I was a little confused at why I was chewed out at the end despite leaving the Earth at higher health than I found it. Regardless, I think you use the 4-colour palette rather effectively and the music sets the game's gloomy tone well. Good work!

Cool game. I destroyed the earth just like I am in real life. That audio is awesome.

The self-awareness is quite fun, and the sprites look nice, but the gameplay is a bit repetitive.

Nice game, it was fun to play. I like the music. Too bad you didn't have more time to add some more progression.

Hah neat game, i like art style - simple but pleasant to eyes, music is also nice. Beating game at first try is tricky but when you get grasp on things you pretty much know what you have to do, it just takes some time ;)
