Nautical Saviour by Oznarox

[raw]
made by Oznarox for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

The basic idea is to save survivors from sinking objects using a motorboat and transport them to islands.

thisGif.gif

The motorboat has limited space, and there is also a limited amount of room available for survivors on the islands.

The more passengers there are on the boat, the slower it moves, and the harder it is to turn.

Time is of the essence, as if an object sinks, the passengers on it can only swim for so long before they submerge.

If you remove a survivor from a sinking object, it remains on the surface longer, thus increasing the chances for the other survivors on it.

Control: WASD Interact: E

I would add some powerups, enemies like sharks and more levels of cousre in the future ^^

It's completely okay if you give a low rating; there's no issue with that. I had to leave on Saturday at noon and only got back a few hours before the submission deadline on Monday evening. That's why it's made up of placeholders instead of the planned PixelArt. I'm fully aware that it's not a well-developed concept. Maybe next time things will turn out differently. No one should feel bad about giving a low rating; I would do the same. I'm aware it doesn't meet the expected standards.

It was my first game jam I participated in, and I'm already happy that I managed to produce a functional software by the deadline, which doesn't crash. :D

i think this needs somewhat better steering as it doesn't have that specific type of clunky that turns into funny and challenging, it just feels like i'm fighting the controls a little .

interesting take on the theme though! i can certainly see this idea in a whole game, there is a lot of potential depth here.

The control is a bit annoying, sometimes the key won't work even if my ship bump right into it.

you have some good levels here. the idea of saving people works really well. I had a similar idea but abandoned it.
The environment needs works. A nice sea would make the game look so much better. Add some details to the scene and you'll have a fun and appealing game.

The controls were smooth, I just wish the camera would be ahead of the player a bit to show what is ahead. Cool concept, nice job!

Immensely enjoyable! I'm captivated by how the game adheres to the theme of restricted space and am quite fond of the animations. While there's room for a touch more detail in the drawings, that minor aspect doesn’t detract from the thoughtfully devised gameplay. I find myself feeling a pang of guilt for the characters who drown—sometimes there just isn’t enough time to save them all! Ha, ha, ha.

@janinna21 ,
Yes, the plan was for the survivors to shout for help in that voice in different languages and to express joy in the same voice when they are saved. Unfortunately, something came up on Saturday, so I had to leave at noon (even though I was planning to sleep) and could only return to the game two hours before the deadline on Monday evening.

That's why the game is made up of placeholders. I originally wanted to do pixel art for that, and that's also why power-ups and challenges (shark, hurricane, whirlpool) weren't included. I initially aimed for 10 levels. Sadly, I could only utilize 12 hours out of the 72h.

I'd like to return to the game during the relaxed Christmas period and finish what I wanted to do.

Nice idea that well fits the theme. Loved the programmer art. If this was further developed it would be nice to have a minimap to show different locations. Good job!

I would have some suggestions, but read your description and get that you already have your project sorted out.

Looking foward the updated version in the future!

Pretty fun game. Just felt like the controls were clunky and interactions didn't always work. But it was a neat game and enjoyable! Well done!

@draekdude Thank you for the feedback. If you're not close enough to the object, you can't interact with it. I still need to fine-tune this and make it clear with some animation when you're close enough to an island or a sinking object to interact. The boat need some deceleration and acceleration I guess.

This is a simple game, but fun and also challenging. And the theme fits the game.

Good fun little game! The boaty feels remarkably nice to boat around. I am an excellent rescuer, and saved everyone with good drive-by skillz!

Would have loved a few more levels and a few more sound effects.

For a first game jam (and not using the whole time) this is a good entry! Keep on making games

Fun and different idea that fits the theme, managed to beat all the levels, think you could make some really interesting and challenging levels with this concept!

I thought the timing on some islands was unbalanced, too fast, almost impossible, making it very difficult. The graphics are super simple but the concept is good. But this difficulty took away the fun
