A Fishy Kinda Fear by cyphix

[raw]
made by cyphix for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

Mr. Soo-shi the fish doesn't like water, in fact it'll simply just kill him to touch it. So he built an underwater base, but Oh NO! It's now leaking. He must escape upward to reach Mars Rocket 1!

WASD, Arrow Keys, and D-Pad on controllers to move Space or A(XBox) to jump E or X(Xbox) to hit the buttons to open the doors Escape or Menu(Xbox) to pause (note: only the mouse works on the menus, sorry)

Okay, it works now. First level is too hard for me, I can't beat the second door.

I was able to run but unable to open the doors. I did get the first one to open once.

Fun little platformer. Nothing crazy inventive but enjoyed playing it. Some of the parts and hitboxes were a little frustrating. Almost got to first door before I quit, not sure if there is more levels. I like the little fish dude with his interact animation.

was a little unclear how to get the first doors open with the red dots. the fishman was an original and cool design though!

it was really difficult. I got stuck on the second door. The idea is cool though. With sound and music it could be really scary.

Wow that is brutal! Loved the concept, character and art in general. Character controls well. Good brutal game. If I were to make a suggestion, it would maybe be an easier mode for those who suck at platformers like me lol.

Probably, fly to the actual mars would be easier, than beating this game :)

Just a smidge too hard. Couldnt be fast enough to get to the second door.

Overall though I enjoyed the concept, just wish the initial stages were a little easier.

The game is a bit difficult to play, jumping sometimes bumps my head, and of course I'm really not very good at platform jumping. A fish that's afraid of water is really humorous and the main character's movements are cute. I got a sense of a well-designed game, well done!

Ok the idea is honestly super funny, but my god is this game hard and unforgiven. This is like "I wanna be the guy" and Various Mario Rom hacks. I just barely, BARELY got 2 doors open.

an interesting observation btw, as soon as you hit the spikes once, then you've basically spend too much time recovering and you're guaranteed death. you might want to think about an instadeath hitbox trap thing, or maybe give the player recovery frames with increased speed.

As they said before, it is practically impossible. The colliders on the spikes are huge, it's practically impossible to jump through them. It's a really, really difficult myth. It does not give

Very tough! I can't open the second door! I wish that you could trigger the buttons just by touching them rather than needing to press E as the collision is quite unforgiving.

I think the difficulty should be tuned down. It would be nice to have a first level pretty short and easy, just to get the player to get involved in the game. Another thing : I think the character is a bit too big for a platformer like that, I hit the ceilling at nearly every jump, which remove some of the pleasure of jumping. Overall a cool little game. Good job!
