Space Alert by NChalakov

[raw]
made by NChalakov for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

A simple 2d game!

A fire breaks out on the spaceship 'SHIP'. You are the last survivor of the crew, and you have limited time to load the escape pod with the most important resources. Launch the ship before it explodes but be careful what you choose because space is limited and time is short.

To Win you need some percentage of the max cargo capcity.(around 30 kg in the capsule zone)

Short and sweet, could do with some audio, or indication as to what objects cause a win not a loss

That was pretty fun but I didn't get how to win С: Feels like the first part of the 60 seconds game.
Good job!

You were seved! Mission failed!
I win, but I still lose in the end lol.
I found it so hilarious that I decided to replay the game, and that's when I understood the game was broken.
The big issue with the game is that it's luck based. You win only if a bunch of heavy items spawn (fire extinguisher). If only sandwiches spawned, you are basically screwed, and no matter how well you play you still lose.

If you can take one lesson from making this game, it should be that you should be careful how you implement randomness in a game. I'd advice watching this video from GMTK.

Thank you for the feedback. I see the problem with the randomness. We did not have the time to test it enough and tweak it, but probably will provide a fixed version with this today.

Okay... Curious about how to win, oh I see the reply, so it doesn't matter how many food I take LOL. Anyway, the game is simple but interesting.

I had to take into account the amount of food in the capsule, but we didn't have time to implement the algorithm

I liked that the camera wasn't just moving with the player 1:1 immediately, most game jam games go the lazy way there. I think it would have been nice if there was a way to know how much weight you needed to succeed though

I've experienced it many times, and it's a simple and light game. I think it would be amusing if it was designed so that you could win no matter what but have different endings, something like "ate a lot on the journey", "built propulsion with all the fire extinguishers", "became the last gaming nerd of the human race! "...

Very simple, but it was fun to move around (the character is very fast). There's definitely potential with this idea. I like @ffffchai's suggestion about having different endings depending on what items you took with you on the ship. I also didn't understand why there were keys for selecting items, since you couldn't use them, and there was never a situation where I had to drop a specific item to pick up a new one. Still it was pretty interesting!
