Hello world!

Welcome in my LD#54 entry : Face the Dice!

In this Dice Forge x Magic: the Gathering dice duel, your goal is to collect 20 Stars before your opponent. For this, you will need to find the best use for your limited space: only six faces per die and three item slots!

Action.png

Features

  • 1 Player VS IA or 2 Players mode!
  • Dice building mechanics.
  • Manage your resources: will you invest in new faces or one-time items?
  • Tutorial to help you understand the core mechanics.
  • Create powerful combos and break your opponent's ones!
  • A lot of different strategies to control the luck.

Controls

  • You only need a mouse.

Team

  • I made the game in 72h in Godot (farewell, Unity...), Photopea and Blender on Linux. Had a ton of fun, but it's definitely the jam entry that was the harder to create.
  • I've made a tiny tiny correction for the IA after the deadline (caused by a last minute bad copy paste) so it should be way more intelligent now :v:. Original version still available but way less interesting because of the bug.
  • Spinozarre made the music.
  • I streamed during the whole jam, you can find the replay on my twitch channel ( https://www.twitch.tv/bastienre4 )

Thank you and I can't wait to hear what you think of the game .

A really great game, and I'm quite impressed by the AI! The only thing I'd change is to make the rolls faster, they take quite a long time. Congratulations!

Game is very cool
Some feedback
- I pretty always had empty space in my three slots of additional dices
- Would like the settings of dice animations speed

Overall pretty solid and interesting to play, I like it

Cool game! Maybe the rounds should be a bit faster and 20 starts to win seems a bit much, or maybe it's just that I was bad

What a great game design. It feels balanced and fun. In my case the game took quite a while as neither me nor the AI was rolling any stars! Definitely a lot of depth and great job at making it possible to play it single player with the AI. The pacing of the game is a little bit slow, and I think you could improve the game a little bit by adding some additional sound effects, since the game got across as a little bit sterile. That being said, amazing to come up with such a simple game allowing complex strategy that is a creative interpretation of the theme.

It's simple, but it works pretty well.

The only thing that i don't know if it was just me, but almost everytime that i reroll a dice, and the AI reroll too, the AI would reroll to the exact same face that it was before. Maybe i don't have luck hahaha

But overall, it's a pretty fun game with potential, i liked a lot and would play with a friend if it had online (maybe in the futur? hahaha)
Good Job!

Very addictive once you understand the rules. Well done!

I second request for online mode :)

Interesting idea - haven't played a dice building game of any kind before so I quite enjoyed it, as well as the clean and polished look of it all :-)

I didn't know throwing dies could be this addictive. The idea of changing faces is intriguing, too bad the opponent realized how to combo dies before me :D It should also be praised that you managed to do both AI and 2P build at the same time even though time was this limited

did not expect to play this for so long, i enjoyed it a lot! i wish there was a way to fast forward through the matches faster. also, the last match i played, one of the enemy's die glitched out and refused to settle on the ground and allow me to continue. if there was a fail-safe that forced the dice to settle to prevent stuff like that would be helpful! overall fantastic game :)

This was awesome! Really liked the interplay between the special / action sides, and the fact that you can target the other player. Made for some tense moments where I re-rolled a opponents die only to have it be worse for me; and visa versa. I could see myself coming back to play it with some small sound effects added for rolling and some of the actions. Really liked the 3d dice rolling. I also thought the malicious sides were inspired, especially since you can't build over them anymore. Great job!

Fun game! I love "deckbuilders" like this. The cards seemed a bit expensive for single-use, even though it's nice to be able to save them. (For example, if I use two x2 cards when I've rolled a 3-coin, I'm only getting an extra 12, which is less than I paid for both cards. It's more worth it for stars and if you get 3x, of course.) I also thought the 2x and the Copy were quite similar (with Copy being more powerful since it also copies the opponent.) I agree that it could be a bit speedier, but had a lot of fun playing multiple rounds to try to figure out a good strategy. In one game I ended with 34 points!

What a unique and interesting game! This one had me hooked for longer than expected. A few bits of feedback:
- I tried playing without a tutorial first. My bad, but I felt hopelessly lost when I first played. Perhaps a sign that more feedback indicating what's going on to the player could be helpful.
- When rounds are uneventful (just stars and coins), it's a bit boring to wait to watch each die be slowly counted. Perhaps that could be sped up.
- I would have _loved_ some dice throwing sound effects. I think that would have kept me playing for even longer.

Still, awesome job!

this was really great!! The gameplay was surprisingly fun with a lot of different dice options to buy from the shop (though once I started multiplying multiplying dice together and then chaining them to star dice it was all over haha). The music was a bit strange but I think it worked decently well. I think my only real complaint was just the speed the game went at, especially with a 20 star win requirement. Wud love to see this game fleshed out

Cool, but I think chance on stars should be greater.

I really love the game. It's chill and strategic, but at the same time you rely on luck. I played it longer than I thought i would. One thing though: Is it possible to make a chain? Like the AI is copying your star dice but you spawn a reroll dice to reroll its copy dice? I felt like in some situations this wouldnt work.

Very chill game with surprising depth. The visual presentation was a bit too minimal for my taste and the dice roll animation could have been a bit faster as it was taking most of the play time. The AI even put up a decent fight but in the end I was just constantly producing stars.

Really addictive

The gameplay loop is fun and engaging. There's surprising amount of depth for such a simple concept, it's very nicely done. The theme really works in the game's favor as the limitations force you tot think a little bit more about your choices

I have encountered a softlock where the dice got stuck

The visuals are pretty good for what they are even if they are rather simplistic

The music choice is very good, it helps me remain calm and focused.

I feel like some sound effects would really elevate this and make it a very satisfying experience!

Good job!

Really elegantly designed! I thought it would be complicated at first with all the phases but actually it was very intuitive and very cohesive. My one criticism is that the game goes on for a bit too long, feels a bit slow to get stars towards the middle/end of the game but other than that absolutely loved it well done!

Awesome concept. Sadly my dice got stucked and the game softlocked
It would be perfect with dice sounds.
Good job !

Pretty cool game, I also got the problem of dices getting stuck mid-game (mine was stuck one on top of another)
The concept is really cool, although I feel like it really starts only after a while.
