About

Glitchstream is a rogue-like, first-person shooter made for Ludum Dare 54. Locked in a virtual room, fight hordes of enemies and survive as long as you can. Unlock doors to expand the playing field, and find new power-ups and weapons to help you survive.

Controls:

  • WASD - Movement
  • Spacebar - Jump
  • E - Interact
  • Left Mouse - Shoot
  • Right Mouse - Aim-Down sights
  • P - Toggle Pixelation

Known Issues:

  • Occasionally when picking up a new weapon, the old weapon model doesn't get deleted.
  • Sometimes interaction text will appear through walls, you can't interact through walls however
  • Occasionally Interact will not work (look directly at the pickup and try moving back a bit)
  • Rarely, chests can't be opened!
  • When swapping weapons the animations will disappear for a second

Movement controls are very nice, gunplay doesn't feel as good.

Graphics and sound are on point, agree with @katajisto that the gunplay is a bit off, feel like I should have hit a few of the shots that missed - really good concept though!

@chrisbeck @katajisto Thank you both for the feedback! Something that may help is holding right mouse to enable ADS (Aim-Down Sights). It's still not perfect but it might be more reliable than hip fire! We do agree though that the hipfire animations require some tweaking to make it easier to aim.

Loved the retro aesthetic. Shooting sound and aiming could be better. Overall a fun game!

Player itself felt nice, wish their was a crosshair but besides that it's a good jam game! Congrats on it!

I love theses types of games so much, gave me cruelty squad vibes !
Survived 10 minutes glitchless, is there a way to change the weapons ?
there is a bug where if you stand on chests enemies can't touch you
the mouse sensitivity is a bit high, would be cool if we could adjust it in game, also there is a bug where the sensitivity went up a lot for a certain period of time
The smg felt super nice, died when switched to shotgun because hard to deal with that much enemies with it
I loved the mood of the game, enemie spawning behind me was so scary since they don't make sound
Really cool experience !

Good concept, but for me, the mouse sensitivity was way too high, it was hard to aim well.

Great entry! The mouse sensitivity was too high for me. I like the pixel effect. I always felt like the enemies were spawning on top of me or just behind me.

Interesting retro-inspired game, a bit standard shooter without any complications.

Nice entry. I like the graphical style, but the mouse sensitivity was way too high.
The gun did not feel satisfying, and it would have been nice to have a break from the constant spawning enemies to look around and actually read the upgrades without being instantly murdered. Apparently I obtained one upgrade, no idea what it was though.
Most of the chests I saw required way too many coins to open.

A very basic shooter game with interesting graphics! Though you do have to take into account that not everyone has a mouse which can toggle its sensitivity manually. Here are a few things I'd recommend adding if you're gonna work on this game more or make another shooter game:
- More feedback. This is always important. At its current state, the game has minimal visual and audio effects, and those are key to making a shooter game feel fun and fair. For example, there could have been sound effects for every time you hit an enemy and there could've been a central hit marker showing from which angle an enemy hit you.
- Fun Enemy AI. Instead of making the enemies spontaneously spawn and immediately start chasing you, make use of state machines and give the enemies more variety in behavior.
- Better level design. There's jumping in the game, but where are the platforms? Place around obstacles and platforms, this will make the game more fun!
