Space LTD by finbobby123

[raw]
made by finbobby123 for Ludum Dare 54 (JAM)

You're the newest recruit to Space LTD, an asteroid mining company. Your job is to design the layout for the machines and buildings needed on each asteroid, accommodating the requirements of the machines and the strange shapes of the asteroids.

Place down Tetris-like structures on a grid to meet the requirements presented in each level. You'll need to produce enough oxygen, provide enough power, build enough crew quarters or whatever else is your boss emails about.

Space LTD and some other projects from us are on fency.fun, our fun little website of fun little things.

Controls: - Mouse to position structures. - Left click to place; right click to delete. - Press R to rotate.

I love this idea. I like that you can delete a piece while you can hold another piece. The graphics are good enough. I wish I could see the shape of a piece at the bottom before I picked it up, that would help me a lot. But even after learning all the piece shapes, I couldn't pass level 1, I found it super hard. I enjoyed it, though!

I got passed the first 2. pretty good! but the UI is squished and i can't see for some reason. at least on the live version. Couldn't get the zip version to work.

Nice! Having different blocks _reduce_ points is puts a neat (and difficult) twist on things! It'd be helpful if the blocks at the bottom had previews for their shapes too.

It would be nice to see the shapes I'm trying to place before I click the icon and try to place it. Oh, and nice work making a game.

@jason-shapiro @tate-brasel @mortusnegati we wanted to do this but ran out of time, we are planning on making a more complete version to put on our website after judging :)

@whysguy52 The Squished UI is a bit of a bug as we used fixed font size :/ we were hoping to fix this though!

**ON MY QUEST TO RATE ALL 15 GAMES NAMED SPACE LTD I’M TRYING OUT ALL THE GAMES NAMED SPACE LTD.** it is self explanetory, but i leave the same start at all of them!

There are lots of "fit them all" games on the jam, and it's cool to see that you added some fun logic around it! Couldn't pass the third level tho, i think it may be impossible, or part of the greed is out of bounds. A neat concept tho, saw that you are gonna add onto it after judging, so i'll wait to see a final version!

P.S. I encourage you to try every space-ltd games using ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/space-ltd-[number] (or don’t use a number to get a first one) link to see what other ppl got! As proud space-ltd creaters should hold onto eachother!

Interesting mix between having to manage requirements and making the pieces fit. Would benefit with easier levels though

I have finished level 3, but seems like there is no next level after it. Or the game is just broken.

Nice puzzle design, but the implementation is far from being perfect.

Had some graphical glitches on my end, but I managed to beat the game! The last level was challenging and fun. Pretty simple, but fun game. Might be fun to use this system as a ship building minigame in a larger game. Try and fit everything you can onto your grid, then try and beat the level with it.

Completed all three available levels! Challenging puzzle design. Quality of life suggestion: when a piece would extend off the asteroid, it would be good to show the red outline for the tiles that are off the asteroid as well so you can see the full shape at all times. (Or at least only so long as the piece is within the game window)

This is a great concept! There are some little quality of life imporovements other people have mentioned already that would be nice to have, but it's a solid foundation. I hope you'll consider adding more levels!
