Dodge ! by Guerif
Dodge!
Lore
It is him or you.
You are stuck in a force field and you don't have any escape, you have a lot of projectiles coming your way and have to dodge them all!
Even worse, someone else seem to be stuck in a similar field... Something tells you that if you kill him you will be set free, so you arm your guns and shoot your way out !
Gameplay
Within the confine of your forcefield, shoot you opponent down. Everytime you shoot the forcefield shrinks, giving you less space to dodge your opponents bullets. But if you are patient enough, the forcefield will inflate back.
But beware! A lot of spaces debris are coming your way, and if they hit you, you will loose space that you won't recover!

Disclaimer
This is a multiplayer online game. You will need to be 2 to play it ! Just let one player press play and create the lobby, then the second player can press play and he will join... hopefully...²
for some reasons, the HTML5 build does not works as you cannot join the lobbies created. We're working on it so you can play test the game easily.
Known bugs: -Sometimes the scene won't load -Hitboxes seems sometimes off due to lag

To try the game, the first player press play wich will create a lobby, then the second player can press play and he will join the lobby.
I like the concept and the simplicity of it. I often get overwhelmed in PvP games, but this was nice. Sadly it seemed that spamming bullets was the best strategy, although that might not be true if people with other playstyles play it. Maybe the forcefield could actually crush you if it gets too small? That would deter people from spamming maybe.
Both the artstyle and the music was really chill and the sound effects were satisfying :)
Overall I enjoyed giving this game a try! Great effort of you three. Maybe you can give my game a try, if you like <3
The text should be bigger. I think it too small.
Is this game really online? My opponent a real person?
Can you try our game and give feedback? Thanks!♪(^∇^*)
P.S. Thank you random stranger for a fight
We definitely will improve the game and make the text bigger !
And yes I assure you you played against a real person :D
Sorry you had to wait a while before playing, we want to improve the game by adding a solo mode so you are not just waiting !
Thanks for the feedback, we will try to implement a more rewarding charged shot !
Its a really good idea to use the theme. I usually dont like shooter but I had so much fun!
I played with my girlfriend, it was so good to have a cooperative game in the jam !
Thank you <3 !
there is a way to improve the game with feedback and rewards
I loved the idea of game, and it is a fitting implementation of the theme. Very ambitious also to make an online pvp game, so bonus points for that. I wish there was a way to experience it though on my own. Tricky thing to require more than one player in a Jam game (I made a 1v1 game too for this LD but also I added CPU opponents)
The gameplay itself (from the little I played) was quite solid, but the whole controlling and shooting with the mouse felt kind of unintuitive. Maybe use keyboard for movement? There is also some balancing to be done with the projectile size / speed, etc to make the most out of the idea.
The music is a real banger and it really set the mood. The sound effects were appropriate. But I really think you would benefit a lot if you had a graphics artist in your team.
Overall a very commendable effort. Props to your develper for managing to setup an online game for a jam, I believe this is the first time I see this in an LD jam, and I have played maaaaany games over the years.
Probably just a matter of personal taste but I think that making the walls remove half a heart when touched and making bigger bullets also faster would make this already cool game e-sport ready :p
The music is cool but too loud vs SFX.
Absolutely loved everything else, and most importantly the fact that it was multiplayer!!
My boys Anekitous and Magic_Mike spent sooooo much time fixing the online so its greatly rewarding for them to see it works !
A solo part was planned as a secondary game mod, it will be implemented if we go on with this game
(and thank you for the music/sfx part, i'm also glad you liked it ^^)
The need of rotating toward mouse for moving hindered the shooting too much and we both felt clumsy all the time.
It could maybe have worked if you could strafe and the ships were slower but had a limited dash capability so you could tactically dash when the bullet hell gets too hot.
Musics were good, sounds minimal and graphics very simple but consistent.
We got some desync bugs, bullets not always hitting when they seem to and bullets on our screens showed at different places.
Anyways, good job for making multiplayer game with lobby. That can barely take loads of time to get to work properly depending on the engine. I have some experience of trying it and have never dared to try to make one for a gamejam.
Thank you for your honnest feedback. We really appreciate this comment, as it shows that you actually played the game.
The idea for the mouse gameplay was that you feel more constricted while keeping the gameplay minimal, but your alternative gameplay looks actually promising, we will implement that.
The desync is due to how we did the multiplayer. The first player will actually be the server, and the second the client. So there is a delay between each communications, and when we realised that, it was to late to correct. We need to correct that by having an independent server.
We had no experience doing that and learned a lot, it is not the best for the jam, as you loose so much time with the playtesting.
