Voidonaut by Jonathan Lorenz
Ok, so I overscoped again ... My plan was to make a simple shmup with a spaceship customization system, where you would have limited space to put ship parts that you would get by killing enemies. All of that in 3 days, it's possible, right?

Well, turns out the "simple shmup" part took me 2 of the 3 days, so I got 1 day left for the garage system. Which obviously wasn't enough.

So yeah, you can customize your ship ... but the differents parts doesn't have any effect, wich isn't what I had in mind. I wanted to have the different parts changing the stats of the spaceship, and taking a certain amount a space. + have them drops from ennemies ...
Oh well, after more than 10 LD I still underestimate the amount of work I can do if I also want to sleep during the LD.
That's the story. A ok-ish game, but hey, at least I participated and learned intersting things! Maybe next time I won't overscope, one can always dream ...
Cheers!

Also I noticed that in the start menu you have mistakenly indicated that the game is for Ludum Dare 45.
I noticed that sometimes no more enemies spawn, but you have to wait and idle a bit until you can finish the level.
You know... I'd wish if such a game is turned into something like Hell Fire (an old Sega) game - these graphics with something like Hell Fire gameplay .. that would be awesome! Just an idea :P
And as others mentioned - seriously, it's cool! Don't worry about it being short - build up on that **super solid and good-looking core**! Make it longer. Add sound effects. Make the ship have different fire modes or sth. Maybe create a fully-random (or pseudo-random) level/s. Add level decoration / solid elements.
One tip: *don't be an extreme perfectionist!*. I can feel you are somewhat of one ;)
And... *make a plan and execute it*.
Good luck, it's a beautiful start : )))
* Customization system seemed pretty well fleshed out.
* Game was quite a lot of fun! I've always had a soft spot for high score-type games, and this one is yet another good timewaster.
* Controls were very straightforward and easy to pick up; it's among the few games on here that I've been able to immediately get the hang of on launch.
* UI and visuals were simple and very well handled.
Cons:
* The gun sound effects were very drowned out and hard to hear; I think the music should be reduced in volume to accommodate them.
* After each round, my ship always seemed to randomize its layout; it led to me thinking on various occasions that my customization wasn't saving.
Bugs:
* After driving into a black hole, the blue jet flame is still controllable long after the rest of the ship loses its ability to move.
* Shooting mechanic is vulnerable to autoclickers.
Overall a fun little high score game! I wouldn't be too hard on yourself about the overscoping; happens to the best of us.
Keep up the good work 🙂👍
It's funny that we had a similar idea for this game jam 😉 ... and run similar problems 😄 but I admit I smashed the schedule even more and turned to the extra category 🫣
